Lightfoot well past his prime
a review from James Muretich for the Calgary Herald

Gordon Lightfoot may have been a seminal figure in Canadian music in the '60s and '70s, but the days of If You Could Read My Mind, Black Day in July and Sundown are long gone.

So too is his voice. It is now painfully fragile.

And, save for a handful of tunes, so is Lightfoot's songwriting, from the derivative Drifters to On Yonge Street that sounds like an ad for Toronto tourism. Sadly, this musical painter is passing through to nowhere of consequence on his latest disc.
