We all have our crosses to bear in life .... and living in Sydney is one major impediment .... Now Steve my friend, As for quoting ARIA charts, that's fine .... I'm familiar with them as well .... but they do not accurately represent state sales. TWOTEF most decidedly made the charts on 3AK and 3XY .... two of the more progressive rock music stations (at that time) in Melbourne. As for "You are what I am", (great song BTW) I spent half my adolescent life listening to the radio .... and never heard it once in Melbourne. |

OK point taken Mike re the ARIA charts. A progressive radio station in Melbourne though? Surely an oxymoron. Thats like saying " a simple technical instruction issued by John Fowles"...lol I didn't hear it back then either ..(You Are What I Am)- I played it to my wife a few hours ago and told her it was one of only 3 that charted - she had never heard it. I can't agree that it is in his top 100 though..still.. As the acknowledged epitome of charity and open mindedness on Corfid I understand that a Melbournian may struggle to stay in touch with reality. |
I first heard Gord in a grade 9 English class in 1968. It was a year after CRT was released -- and that was the beginning. Still recall sitting in that class just mesmerized by that song. Immediately went out and bought the almum. Oddly, after almost 40 years since then, I still remember the name of the fellow who brougt in the album to play - his name was David Wooton .... perhaps he even posts here. If he does, thanks Dave ... brought me a lifetime of music that both me and my brother love. In fact, my bros takes guitar lessons with none other than Red Shea himself ... and he (bros) is a very good guitar player.

Nope, crikey is not a "cuss" word .... it's an exclamation of surprise ... much like our other famous and peculiar expression "strewth", or the English saying of "Cor Blimey".
Therein lies the simplicity of life downunder in the GSL .... take the English language, mangle it, and call it your own ... it's a dialect called "strine" ..... which is a truncated version of the word "Australian". |

"Early Morning Rain" as sung by Judy Collins from her "Fifth Album" (1965). Had me checking out the composer, which sent me to this guy Gordon Lightfoot, and the rest is history. Great album by the way, with "Pack Up Your Sorrows" and "Thirsty Boots" among others.

The first song I heard was "The Wreck" (surprise, surprise) in perhaps third grade when it came out. I made enough of a fuss about it that my parents gave me "Summertime Dream" for my birthday. It was the first LP I ever owned. "Race Among the Ruins" quickly became my favorite song.
"Summertime Dream" is also the only recording I have owned in LP, cassette and CD format. I have owned several in two formats, but only one in all three. |

That is why when i first join this group,i said that my siblings thought I was an odd ball. I still love his music :) . Does anyone know if he will be doing any concerts this year? |
