Interesting stuff, John. The London plaques authority used some creativity by including "Was a Painter Passing Through". People who only remember Lightfoot from his heyday wouldn't have heard of the 1990s album "A Painter Passing Through" and others wouldn't understand the connection between a troubadour/poet and painting.

Thanks for taking the time to post the interview, CHar.

Good things happen to good people. Considering all you've done for the Lightheads over the years, it only seems fitting that your birthday would include a call from Gord.

Great job as usual. I found the "I want to leave a clean campsite" comment interesting - curious choice of words.

lol - first time was May 1973 at a Kris Kristofferson concert @Massey Hall. Kris was performing with his soom to be wife Rita Coolidge.
Gord got up onstage with Kris to sing Bobby Magee. I had used all of my film to shoot pics of kris & Rita and had none left when Gord onstage..
The only time I ever saw a picture was SONGBOOK was reased and the booklet inside had a picture of them taken that night!

I certainly agree with Dave that it is a huge difference when interviewed by Char, an extremely loyal fan, than by someone whose assignment it is. It was a great interview - and Happy Belated Birthday, Char!!

thanks! I think the fact that I'm not a 'pro' (painfully obvious) and have no agenda NOR does Gordon, makes things more relaxed..

Topics get off track but go down a different road to something he might not speak about with a print/tv/radio journalist. That he offers these CHats to me as a fan is very special to me and I would like to think that he enjoys speaking with me too. Surely he has other things to do than spend 40 minutes of his evening yacking to me!

When all is said and done I get to express how greatful I am for his music, for his 'acquaintance' after all of these years as a fan and to let him know that I will tag along as I always have offering my support in just 'being there.'

He, in his own way with the calls is saying 'thankyou' to not only me but to all of his fans who may end up reading these transcripts. There's not a lot of earth shattering news but it's more of a small insight into him as a person.

For me, the calls just emphasize his graciousness, generosity and appreciation towards and for his fans.

Next to the live concerts he loves to do and that I can attend, and the CHats we have, I am most happy when I hear that he is receiving another well deserved accolade that brings a smile to his face and gratification in his heart that lets him say, 'yes, I have made a difference and my music has made an impact.'

I passed on Gord's "Perth" answer to Wayne at www.lightfoot.ca (because its Lightfoot Geography screen prompted my question). Wayne replied "It was with the Aussie concert promoter. Terry Clements went with them. Probably Rick too."

I sort of surmised he went with the guys when he said, 'We were out for about an hour and a half cruising around Perth harbour.'
A shared experience like that is always more special...
