Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
Talk about finding the oldies online! :) I don't believe in my time here I've seen this one.
I know I did a similar one in 2004 about "how eager a person is to get the Harmony CD." I know I'm pretty dran close to a fanatic. I flew on a commercial airline for the first time in 2008,just to see his shows in L.A. and San Diego! Another way would be never leaving the Corfid site. ;) |
Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
These are all terrific
Lisa j, I love the ring tone idea Is your husband's Bossman or You'll Still Be Needing Me? :) |

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
... you fly from Australia to North America to see him in concert. (And several of us have done this over the years.)

yes, it is so, soooooo fantastic to have all those ringtone opportunities. "when children had wings" is one friend, my neice and nephews are "sundown LIVE", and another friend is "somewhere USA." the best part is I wake up every single morning to "If you could read my mind." |
Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
You've met Gordon and the band 13 times(? = think this is right), you have three guitar picks from Terry Clements in your closet lockbox in a sandwich bag with your kids names taped inside (my kids have met them 5 or 6 times also), and Barry Keane calls out your last name when he sees us at a meet-n-greet and asks about our kids.
I've asked Gordon a few times for a pick, but he says the flat picks are "hard to find a good one". (Guitar players can ponder that statement) I don't play guitar, but I think Gordon wants you to remember and savor his music, rather than have a 'souvenir' such as a pick or a t-shirt. Probably just as well. If I had one of his picks I would probably build a shrine around it and charge admission !!!!!!! |
Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
OK. I'll try one.
When you think the songs he writes and records are better than the remakes. |

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
Ah, well Bill!
I thought of another one...a post elsewhere on this site brought it to my attention. You KNOW you are a Lightfoot fanatic when your reaction to an item for sale on Ebay is "WHAT!? You're SELLING YOUR COPY of SONGBOOK!? WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???" |
Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
You buy the entire first season of Saturday Night Live on DVD just so you can have Gord performing Summertime Dream and Spanish Moss from the May 22, 1976 broadcast. Great stuff!

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
when most of your facebook comments include a line from a Lightfoot song
|
Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
You catch yourself citing “Gordism’s” in casual conversation. I actually said to a former boss, “I plan on leaving a clean campsite”, upon giving notice that I was quitting!

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
You believe that "all" music acts of every genre
should follow his lead in their muysic and songwriting. Even have classical orchestra leaders arrange Beethoven & Mozart etc. like Gordon would! LOL! |

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
You take your kids to a Gordon Lightfoot concert on Father's Day, as THEIR present to YOU.
|
Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
You travel to Blackpool, Norfolk, and Shirley in the UK to meet up with other Lightfoot fans, and to play and sing the songs together.

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
it was as the Moderator person said great to see the Lawman in print again , where have you been since 2007,David?
Thanks young man for your pair of reassuring replies at long last to my Private Messages from 2007 and 2012. I' ll be replying in more detail later. Meanwhile apropos this thread I knew I was a fanatic long before I allowed myself to be inveigled into travelling to Toronto from the UK back in 1999 by a freind I had made in the then active chat room and ended up getting married to her:kiss: Before that I knew I was a fanatic when having heard a listener:headbang: (from Brockenhurst Hants UK) to a BBC folk music programme ask about Gordon Lightfoot, I noted his name (Alvin Tull) then tracked him down by perusing the electoral rolls in Brockenhurst Public Library so that I could visit him at home. Later in 2007 diring a once in a lifetime vacation down under I arranged for a meeting with three of the known Lightfheads in Melbourne Australia (Mende joveski, (Catman)Ron Chidgey and the late Peter Treloar) in the Casino on the South Bank of the Yarra River. but failed to do more than have a phone chat with the Sydney Hooligan:biggrin: there, I also failed to meet another fan fron Invercargill on New Zealand's South Island, but did organise a pre concert gathering with Californicators in Ceritos,CA in 2005.Plus many other such occasions in NH Boston MA. NJ and memorably the Greek Restaurant in Glenside PA,:clap: |

Having never heard of the movie Thunderbolt & Lightfoot, you automatically assume
he is in the picture. You also think Thunderbolt is going to be 1970s singer Chi Coltrane. |

haha, been there done that, only it was on mother's day last year. My daughter "took" me after I bought the tickets, and because it was mother's day, she wasn't allowed to complain when I waited after the show to say Hi to Gordon. best part was, we got to go back stage! |

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
[ You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when... ]Thinking of Father's Day above, (and Mother's Day too) coming up, on Father's Day over the years, my dream day would go as follows, when all things were possible concurrently in the same day: (something akin to the planets all being aligned every 240-some years - First, my daughter and I would go on a hike and bag a peak in the 11 - 12,000ft. range from a high trailhead near timberline already, such as the Brainard Lake trailhead, climb Mt. Audubon, then go for a short canoeing trip on Brainard Lake, go to dinner All 3 of us when Merry was around, then go to a Sunday Concert with Lightfoot in town - just Merry and I. Those three things have worked together twice in life. That's a great father's day, and the odds of all 3 occuring on the same day (notably the concert) are near astronomical (quite literally). That's when you know you are GL FANATIC when.... for me :cool::cool::headbang::biggrin:

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
...when people ask you where you were born?
you say, " 50 feet from Massey Hall " |
Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
.... when you look through on-line Canadian outdoors-wear companies, looking for the same brand of 3-button Wallace Beery shirts (river driver shirts are another common name for them), that Gordon wears/wore (mostly a black one, in some years past - "Northern Something" brand)just so you can wear the same shirts he does....

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
you know you are (and were, in the day) when in the 70's in Cleveland, when you were serious about getting your hair "permed" the way he did, (after you were old enough that your beard really filled-in to pull it off) to further try to look like him. You figured that would make you a "chic magnet", but then you realized that as an 18 year old, in working-class Cleveland, as a white guy with a 'fro, however just curly and "Edwardian", as the Guess Who sang that he looked, you realized that guys would beat the crap out of you, and you'd look like an idiot. But danged if it didn't work for him. Why is that? No fair. hehe

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
Coming to terms with an involvement in this post has left me in a quandry to an extent, as it tended to conjure up feelings of embarrassment.
However, at this late age in life, exoneration just might not seem like an impossible option, and: "Time has been wasting away, I can see it go sailin' on by." Yes it has, and too many of our greats are leaving us in what seems to be a frenzy these days. Well, apart from the pseudonym used here, and finding the missing pieces to all the empty spaces, and having attended every Gordon Lightfoot concert in Massey Hall since he began performing there in 1967, reading between the lines upon each page over the years, I guess all is said and done. |

Thank you JJ.
The feeling of exoneration just arrived on my doorstep with your kind post. And Char, please don't forget to include me in your "alert" message list when word arrives that tickets become available for the next set of Massey Hall gigs. RJ. |

Re: You know you're a Gordon Lightfoot FANATIC when...
you know you are a gordon lightfoot fan when a collegue's mistake causes you to get only three hours sleep and as a part of his apology he offers up a recording of a live gordon lightfoot concert from the 70's and you not only forgive the collegue, but you hug him....
