As I've said in previous posts,I had never owned any of Gord's albums (I guess that word dates me, huh?), but, instead listened to my girlfriend's over... and over... and over... So, I'm making up for it now. I now have 8 CD's (Complete Greatest Hits, Sundown, Waiting for You, Cold on the Shoulder, Don Quixote, Endless Wire, Dream Street Rose, East of Midnight, A Painter Passing Through, and his DVD, "Live in Reno." I actually love his DVD the most. I literally watch it over and over and over. My husband is going nuts. (Jealous??!) I've just ordered five more CD's and I can't wait!! (If You Could Read My Mind, Summer Side of Life, Old Dan's Records, Salute, and Shadows.) I'm listening to these for the *first time* and I'm finding LOTS and LOTS of songs I ABSOLUTELY LOVE!! Each time I finish listening to one several times, the songs get into my head and I can follow the lyrics in my head as he sings [no WAY will I sing along with or (heavens!) over his voice!!] This is one singer (what a paltry word to describe this wonderful man) I want to LISTEN to, not sing with! I am in heaven, dear Gordon. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I will see you in Vegas!

You know, you guys hit the nail on the head. I literally feel 14 again and am SO excited listening to these recordings!! I feel like a giddy schoolgirl. Now, THAT takes a LOT!! So, ok, I have 3 CD's in the car right now and it's too darn cold to go outside to see which ones they are. Well, one I know -- it's Greatest Complete Hits. I get chills when I hear CRT. (yeah, yeah, I'm posting like a pro, using the letters only, heh heh...) So, my special favorites. Well, most I can't associate yet with their titles, but, I know them when I hear them, as I've only listened to most of them only 2 or 3 times. Let me grab the ones I have here on the desk and see if I can remember which ones were ultra special to me: DEFINITELY: A Painter Passing Through. God, that song just rings of older wisdom, you know? That song just makes me love the man even more, if that's possible. Oh, god, please don't let me sound like a crazed stalker. I'm not. LOVE Don Quixote. Actually, I like his rendition he did at the Reno concert in 2000 better than the original recording! I liked the cragginess in his voice and the slower pace better. It made it sound so much wiser. And he wrote that song as a young man. <sigh> He is truly touched by God. O.K., back to the songs I was especially touched by (and can identify by title): Beautiful (I turn into mush with that one), The Circle is Small, Cold on the Shoulder, EVERYTHING on Dream Street Rose, well, my special favorite on that CD is Whisper my Name, LOVE Stay Loose, A Lesson in Love, LOVE I'll Tag Along, really, I know there are at least 5 or 6 others I love, but, I know them when I hear them. Now, keep in mind I, naturally, know of lots of his songs from 30+ years ago, so I haven't listed those. My absolute favorite GL song? Duhhhh... IYCRMM!!! It's really so nice and special to be able to share my enthusiasm with all of you. When I get excited about something (or someone), I get very excited and animated. Some people are bothered by expressiveness -- not me. So, thanks for being there to listen!

Have you heard Home from the Forest yet? I really like that one, Watchman's Gone, Song for a Winter's Night is top choice too. I like Stay Loose mostly for the the backup singing blending in with his. It sounds great. I have a huge long list and a couple of "SuperTapes" I have made with Gord songs for different moods or places, or for driving and for sitting at home. I have Gord everywhere!

You have to get the new "Harmony" CD and listen to the title track. It's amazing! Brought me to tears several times and I'm a big bully! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thanks, J.J.!! And thanks, everyone, for your welcoming of me! (ok, let's forget about grammar here for a bit!) It's really been wonderful. I can "enthuse" to my heart's content. SO... I totally forgot to mention that I DO have Harmony!! It's been in my car since I bought it weeks ago!! TOTALLY LOVE IT!! It's certainly not our Gord from 30 years ago, but, it's the Gord we love, right? And love him we do, be it 26, 36, 46, or 66!! MMMMMWAH!!! (That's a kiss to Gord!) After I heard the Reno DVD and Harmony, I felt like all I wanted to hear was the "now" Gord. Then, I got nostalgic for his older songs and ordered tons of his CD's... got 5 more coming in, hee hee hee!! My daughter's copy of Dream Street Rose came in two days ago and she's totally loving it! (She's 11 1/2!) I FINALLY got her to admit that he's cute. Yes, dammit, I still love him at 66. Why the hell not, right? When you love someone, that's it. OH, also forgot to say I TOTALLY love Song for a Winter Night (that was the title, wasn't it?). Heard that one on the Reno DVD ... god, what mush I turn into when I hear that. how sweet. (Let me tell you, kids, my husband is benefitting from my happiness!! He's not complaining!!) But, he won't let me go to Vegas alone!! I have to hornswogle a girlfriend to go with me. Sheryl, get the United Artist Collection. It's a compilation of his United Artist albums, minus Sunday Concert. It has all original, early Lightfoot music (well, not the official Early Lightfoot album. We'll save that for another time). You will hear his original version of Song For A Winter's Night, Home From The Forest, Canadian Railroad Trilogy and many many more. It is worth the listen. You can pick it up for under $15.

Song For A Winter's Night is quite possibly my favorite Lightfoot song. That song, plus Home From The Forest and four more Lightfoot tunes are on my new CD. I originally planned on only putting three Lightfoot tunes on my CD, but me and Bob were having so much fun playing them, I decided to go with three more.

That is a special video, one I still stick in the VCR and watch quite often.

Wait until you hear the new recording of SFAWN with Bob on bass and high string guitar. The CD will be done as soon as I get off my lazy butt and finish up the artwork. I had it pretty near done, but then was told I did it wrong, because I didn't include publisher names in my song list.

Sheryl - you're as giddy as a teenager! I love it! I too smile when I read your posts. Home From the Forest is on the CD Waiting for You, it is out of print but if you watch ebay it is on there frequently and on other sites too. I envision the song being about a Vet and it really hits my heart. One thing about Gord's songs they can mean many different things to many different people. I can't wait to hear SFAWN and Home on Cathy's CD. She's great!

This morning I got the 5 CD's I've been expecting! I've listened to IYCRMM at least three or four times today while driving around in the car. My daughter kept saying, "But, mommy, we already heard this song!" I said, "I know! But, I have to memorize the words, have the song engraved on my heart before I switch to a new CD!" That's the way I was even as a teenager, too. I had to memorize the song before I'd listen to anything else. O.K. Favorites on that album: (apart from the obvious IYCRMM!!): LOOOOVE "Saturday Clothes" and... I can't remember the title exactly (I have a case of C.R.S. -- anyone over 40 know what that stands for? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif, but, I think it's "Your Love's Return" ... or something like that. It's supposedly for Stephen Foster. ?? It is, by far, the SWEETEST love song. I was a puddle, again, all day. I also really liked "Sit Down Young Stranger." Oh, I have Waiting For You. I got it a few days ago. I have to listen to it again to see which song Home From the Forest is. I tell you guys, Gordon was born with such *knowing,* such wisdom - God bless him and keep him. (And yes, I DO feel like a teen again (46 last month!!)listening to Gord's music!! A very blessed one!!

Thank you, John. O.K., I just ordered them both on Amazon.com. I'll be waiting on tenterhooks for them to arrive! Just in case I wasn't clear before, I, of course, knew Gord's music since 1972, but, followed a different course of music after the mid-70's. So, I'm catching up. IYCRMM was the first song I heard of his. It was played at my brother's high school graduation in 1972 in a small auditorium. I remember it as if it were last week. Some of the kids had made a sort of psychedelic poster with their class motto on it, "IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND" and while the graduating class filed in, his song was played. I remember, when first hearing the beautiful guitar strains and Gord's gorgeous melodious voice, thinking that I would never be the same again. And I never was. The room seemed to be filled with a sort of golden glow. My mind was enraptured with Gordon's song. Everyone in the audience was silent and caught in their own thoughts as we all listened. It was as if we were all remembering lost loves -- and I pined for one (I was 13) as Gord's music filled my soul. I became a poet and a writer shortly after that. Though I was not and am not a writer by trade (I have been a legal secretary -- talk about using right and left brain), I often am struck dumb with amazement at how prolificly beautiful (how pathetically insufficient to describe Gordon's music) his music and writing are. I am brought to peacefulness by listening to him. I am at one with the world. If we had a world-wide P.A. system and played Gord's music, there would be no war. People would be filled with love, with loving thoughts, and with kindness. I can't wait for April 29 when I'm going to see him, live, and for the first time, in Las Vegas!! Blessings upon Gordon Lightfoot and us all.

My son sang IYCRMM during his Junior Exhibition, and I accompanied him on the guitar. His school principal was awestruck, because she had no inkling that Dan could sing. He didn't participate in chorus or anything that involved singing.
As he was singing, I looked down into the audienc of about 600 people and spotted one of his ex-girlfriends. She was wiping tears from her eyes.

There are others whose titles I can't remember, also. I think I mentioned Song for a Winter Night. If I'm screwing up the titles, please forgive me! Also, Your Love's Return (mentioned that already). LOOOOOVE "Shadows." I listened to that one over and over and over as I drove over the hill last night to take my brother some chicken soup (he's sick). Felt misty the whole time. I just want to take Gord and hug him, you know? I'll have to keep pen and paper handy in the car and jot down the titles so I can remember to post them here.
