Interesting to note that no further details are gonna be released by request of family.... hospital says he continues to improve, yet they don't know when he will be released? This is getting a bit worrisome to me despite the positive spin by the hospital |

Watchman,
Your points are well made. Comments, anyone? Bill |
I am all for respecting a person's privacy etc etc, I don't think we need to know every single detail about what has transpired in ICU the last two weeks... but a report saying what exactly is or isn't wrong at this moment in time would be appreciated.
I am betting that he is undergoing severe nicotine withdrawal and that also plays havoc with your vascular system, so that also plays a vital part in the ruptured vessel he suffered. Not a day goes by where I am NOT thinking of him and what is going on, you're right the lack of general information only fuels people's speculation. |

I have to agree with The Watchman in a way...but, since we are not getting the "poop" on everything then, we just need to pray for his recovery & nothing more...the rest will "come out in the wash" at the right moment. (I'm chanting like hell!)

While I sympathise with his family's wish for privacy, I do confess to finding these
little 'teaser' bulletins disconcerting. They encourage us to fear the worst. We have to believe that he is progressing and try very hard not to speculate either privately or among ourselves. Good thoughts will promote his healing. Meanwhile he remains in my mind, heart and prayers. |
I'm thinking we all love the music of an intensely private and shy man. We are all hoping for the best. But I'm also thinking that Gordon Lightfoot is not unconscious and may be as much behind the limited updates as anyone around him.

like all of you i just want to know how Gord is REALLY doing. the man & his music are both extremely important to me. i just want him to get better.

You know, things were really touchy there for about 36 hours...so I can see why Gord and the family might want to see how things go. I'm no doctor, but common sense would point to the possibility that whatever the condition the blood vessels that ruptured were in...other vessels could be in a similiar precarious situation. And, as mentioned above, having nicotine in your system causes your body to heal much more slowly. Both of my parents had lung surgury and because they were smokers (yes, the cause of the surgury) they had to be off cigarettes for a week to 10 days before they would operate..to give the blood's clotting ability and tissue healing ability a chance to get somewhat back to "normal". Keep in mind that this has never happened to Gord and his family...and you have adult kids putting in their two cents worth as well. I will bet ya we have some kind of progress report, such as it is, this week.

I agree that this big mystery thing is a P.I.A.
BUT! I think it's best not to ponder so much on this whole Gordy health issue otherwise you're just gonna drive yourselves crazy. Worry is a drain on the mind & "happiness factor". PS: (((Watchman))) Hey man, "En-Lighten up!" FYI: The correct spelling is "Buddha" & it isn't a "god" that we worship. It's the name of the highest life condition we all possess (which makes us all Buddhas). Buddhism is more accurately categorized as a philosophy more so than a religion (like Christianity). Comparing it to Christianity is like comparing apples to oranges. Furthermore, we are a pretty peaceful bunch in that our "Faith equals our daily life" therefore, the positive effects of Buddhist practice is shown through our lives to others in our immediate environment whereby empowering others to change their present negative situations; therefore, we don't feel the need to "compare" &/or "put down" other religions in order to prove the validity of it's teachings. ------------------ "Mathematics is well & good but, Nature keeps dragging us around by the nose." c'mon guys, let's keep the discussions about Gord and not religion. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

There is some news dated 23/09. Gord is still "serious but stable" and his doctor says he still has a long road ahead. Not the best news I know, but things could be worse I guess. This goes back a couple of weeks now, but he's still fighting. Lets all just hope for the best.
