Just got back from a great concert, here's the set list - I'll give some details after.
1. 14k Gold 2. Drifters 3. ? - I believe GL said it was from SSOL and we had probably heard it 1 or 2 times. Contains lyric 'let it ride' multiple times, but it wasn't 'Let It Ride' from EOM. Great song - excuse my ignorance. 4. Beautiful 5. In My Fashion 6. Blackberry Wine 7. Triangle (Mail request from Tony & Lee) 8. Cotton Jenny 9. Sundown 10. Carefree Highway 11. The Wreck 12. Alberta Bound 13. Sit Down Young Stranger (mail requ fr Melissa) 14. IYCRMM 15. Painter Passing Through 16. Waiting For You 17. Early Morning Rain 18. Restless 19. Baby Step Back 20. CRT 21. Cold On The Shoulder - encore The concert started at 8:00 and GL seemed very loose. The Orleans Theatre seats about 800 and though it wasn't a sellout, the fairly large crowd was enthusiastic. I've seen GL at the Orleans before and I believe this concert had more "Lightheads" than usual. The sound in this theatre was excellent as usual. GL seemed in a happy mood, talking between songs. The voice was solid throughout. I believe GL likes the newer songs in concert because they suit the timbre of his voice - just my opinion. Highlights of the concert: The performance of Triangle and Restless; lost his pick early into CRT, smiled, picked it up, then hummed until the next verse. Had a smile on his face for the next minute or so, and the crowd laughed with him; Looked at a request from the stage - It was for CRT! The Lightfoot fans laughed at that one; The entire feel of the concert, loose, sweet. I know some posters made it down for this show, I'll be interested to hear what they thought. As a Vegas native, I know this was a very enthusiastic crowd for a Thursday night. I'm sure it can't compare to Massey Hall, but I think GL is taking a liking for this venue. Excuse the mistakes as I'm not a ggod typist and please, someone at the concert help me with the third song. All the best - Dalyot |
Correction - After looking at the lyrics, the third song in the set was 'Let It Ride'. A couple of other notes: Before 'Triangle' GL asked the crowd to imagine a fleet of great sailing yachts...and then to imagine those yachts sailing into the Bermuda Triangle.LOL. The band has changed some of the arrangements on some of the stand-bys, almost playful. GL never has an intermission at the Vegas shows - I wonder if that's his decision, or if the Orleans wants the people back in the casino more quickly.

Hi,
I was there that night, too. I thought the band looked pretty beat, especially Rick Haynes; Las Vegas sometimes has that effect on people...but, the show must go on and away they ripped. Gord dropping the pick was priceless, as he proved that he might be human for just a moment...I was also at the show on 8/9 and had the pleasure of meeting 'Old Dan' from this web-board. Including the standard songs you'll hear at most every concert, he also played: Sea of Tranquility The Watchman's Gone Ribbon of Darkness (which went right into Sundown) Big Blue Old Dan's Records I thought he might have played I'll Prove my Love, but now I'm not so sure...should have been keeping notes. Incidentally, my wife and I are the 'Tony and Lee' who had requested 'Triangle', which is my favorite Gordon Lightfoot song. We got a Painter Passing Through press photo and an album cover signed on 8/8, but we didn't bring anything in on 8/9. I LOVE the venue (Orleans Hotel/Casino)...it's very intimate. If Gord keeps going back there every year I think we will too. Good night, all! Time to catch up on some sleep! Can't say the same about my bank account... |
