http://users.powernet.co.uk/barrett/jotting4.html JOTTING DOWN NOTES DYLAN AND GORDON LIGHTFOOT JOINT TOUR? Following Dylan's recent Stateside jaunt with Paul Simon, Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot has revealed that a tour with Dylan next summer is a possibility. In an interview with New York City reporter Eric J. Greenberg, to promote his new 4-CD set, Songbook, Lightfoot was asked about possible tour plans with his famous songwriting friend. Lightfoot said: "It's possible with Dylan. They want to team people up. Sure, we're thinking about doing that next summer. I don't know if it will be Dylan, but I can tell you one thing for sure. I can let him close." (Laughs). Dylan has long been a great admirer of Lightfoot. On November 30, 1975, Dylan and Lightfoot were filmed at the latter's Toronto home during the Rolling Thunder Revue. Lightfoot's version of Dylan's Ballad in Plain D from this session was later used in Renaldo and Clara. Last year, the Dylan-Lightfoot mutual appreciation society continued, when Dylan covered I'm Not Supposed To Care in concert, while Lightfoot returned the compliment in the same week by singing Ring Them Bells, a song he also included on a studio album several years ago. ------------------ "Will Build Satellites For Food" |

That interview was from June, 1999. It is on my site - written specifically for it. That observation about Dylan singing I'm Not Supposed To Care, and Lightfoot singing Ring Them Bells the same week was my observation. I told Eric to ask Gord if it was just coincidence, and Gord replied, "It's accidental. None of it is planned."
Interesting to see that it has made news in the UK! Here's the interview: www.gordonlightfoot.com/Interview.html Eric and I still talk about how nice it would be if they toured together. That would be a concert not to be missed. ------------------ Valerie Magee Visit my GL web site at gordonlightfoot.com [This message has been edited by vlmagee (edited October 30, 2002).] |
it won't happen, unfortuantely. dylan toured extensively in 99 and 2000. he is cutting down his touring next year as well.
i have a bootleg of dylan doing i'm supposed to care - which reminds me Al, i better make the MP3 i told you about :) |
Thanks Val!
I've read that on your site before but for some reason, that portion of the interview slipped past me somehow. I think I must have suffered from "information overload" perusing your site...you've got some "gems" hidden in the depths there. ------------------ "Will Build Satellites For Food" [This message has been edited by ColoradoSue (edited October 31, 2002).] |
