I only know Gord's bigger hits - I have half a dozen tracks off "Gord's Gold" , plus the Summertime Dream album/CD and the "Live in Reno" DVD. The big question is this. What would you knowledgeable souls out there in cyberland suggest as my next CD purchase?

I like "commercial" stuff. No apologies or guilt. Sorry.
The purists intimate this is near enough to heresy or ignorance or a nasty combination of both. Spare me the " you must hear the only once ever recorded in a cave inhabited only by bats in southern Cambodia while using nothing more than Coke bottle tops for percussion version of CRT ".
I am looking for a natural progression from the stuff I am familiar with . Any suggestions ?

I normally suggest Don Quixote first but in your case I'd say go ahead and get Songbook. That will take you through the years nicely and you can decide where you want to branch off from there. Songbook is a real good value for the money.

Commercial stuff ? There are a ton of selections.
They were meant to be hits (hopefully), but times change. If you have followed this site for any length of time I think you will find numerous references to songs that were every bit as good as the well-known creations.

"Shadows", and "Songbook" are wonderful suggestions. However, your criteria is a bit vague. So...explore and enjoy.

If commercial is what you want,there wasn't a more commercial LP than,Sundown. I mean that in the positive way of course. ;)

..but,if you'd like to save that for last or later,go with "If You Could Read My Mind". :)

Sundown, Shadows, Dream Street Rose, Salute, Don Quixote, Cold on the Shoulder.. in that order for me. Definitely any of the first 3 for your next CD. Let us know what you get and how you like it!

Do get the Songbook, it has songs from all the albums and you can pick where to go from there. You will, by the way, end up with everything so it really doesn't matter what you get next. You will love it all - maybe in verying degrees - but you'll love it all.

I think the album that I always stayed away from because of reviews, but then found (surprisingly) to be one of Gord's best, is Salute.

That opener is just mindblowing.

Oh, yeah, jeffyjo. Totally agree with you there. I've found myself listening to Waiting for You more and more. There really are top quality songs on there, Steve. You should definitely consider that one, too. If you have the Live in Reno DVD, I believe quite a few of songs from that album on on the DVD. I love 'em. (yeah, yeah, what else is new?!) ;)

i agree all great selections, but i think for the newer fan ,the most accessible album by far is "summertime dream",,, a true classic chock full of strong standards as well as some sleeper gems.i was force fed gords gold daily all through childhood and loved every second of it, but it wasnt untilli saw summertime dream in the used bin and said its only a buck fifty , i have nothing to lose...and thats the one when i knew i'd be following this troubador for life !!!! and it even picks up and rocks you a bit{do it again}..happy listening ,

Anyway, I would go with either Harmony, because that shows his current tastes, or Dream Street Rose, simply because it's full of great songs!! Shadows isnt bad either.

I second going with Harmony. A really good album showing the current side of Gordon.

My two favourite albums are Summer Side of Life and Shadows
