Yesterday,at age 90,after a long illness, actor Glenn Ford passed on.

Ford was best known for his role as teacher Mr. Dagio (dahdj-0) in a tough city high school in 1955. The movie was "Blackboard Jungle" which featured the song "Rock Around The Clock".

Just 3 weeks ago I checked that movie out of the library and I found that Glenn's son was part of the "commentary" along with Jamie Farr (who was 19 in the film) and another co-star. Glenn was to ill to attend.

Ford also starred in "Gilda" with actress Rita Hayworth and was the original father in the movie version of,"The Courtship Of Eddie's Father" that also starred Ronny Howard, which helped to launch the 1960's/70s series w/Bill Bixby and Brandon Cruz.

While never a "superstar" he was a well respected actor and man.

He was born in Quebec and lived there until he was 8. He was a handsome and talented man.
Another Hollywood gentleman has passed on....

I think my favorite Glenn Ford movie was the original version of "Ransom!" - way better than the Mel Gibson film from about 10 years ago. Donna Reed played the mother well, but Ford tore up the screen with his anguish, desperation, anger and worry about his kidnapped son. It turns up on Turner Classic movies sometimes - worth a look.

Let's not forget,he was Clark Kent's adoptive father in the original 1978 "Superman".

His last movie was 1991's "Final Verdict".
