Mariposa 2008 - Lightfoot-ed songs

THERE'S A TEAR IN THE BEER TENT

The only reason the folks who organize the Mariposa Folk festival don't stay up late at night thinking of snappy titles for the Saturday and Sunday afternoon sets on the various stages they have in Tudhope Park is because they have eight or nine months to do that.

For example, on Saturday afternoon a set called "There's a Tear in My Beer Tent" has David Essig, James Gordon, The Good Lovelies and Tony Dekker performing. Wanna bet they'll be doing country-flavoured tunes?

John Wort Hannam, David Ross Mac-Donald and the Foggy Hogtown Boys are paired up with a guy who only uses two names -- Jory Nash -- in "No Country for Old Songs," likely playing recently written tunes.

I have no clue what the content will be for "A Few Clowns Short of a Circus" with Cheryl Wheeler, Connie Kaldor, Ken Whitely and Trevor Mills.

Sunday seems to have fairly to-the-point titles like "Lightfoot-ed Songs." My guess is Pavlo, Dala and J. P. Cormier will do songs written by Gord.

There's a lot more to tell about this year's festival, but there's also some time to do it, so stay tuned.

If you get tickets now, the weekend pass is only $79, $39 for youths. Do that online at mariposafolk.com or at their office on Mississaga Street across from the Orillia Public Library.

Err Umm did the Packet get its knickers in a slight twist?
I do believe that there is a "U" in Missisaga, just like the "U" inYuri.
Or is that street in Orilia really misspelt??
Or am I imagining things here???

Mississaga St. in Orillia is different spelling than the town west of Toronto called Mississauga.
