4th open mic

Wish I could say I was getting good (or better) at this! I really don't think that I sing good at all! Or maybe I'm singing the wrong songs...I think my voice is better suited for singing the blues. Or at least that's what I was singing after I bombed out tonight (no sah, just kiddin).

Pam,
You look good, girl! Your hair is not big...lol.:)

You make me laugh, really, really, laugh and I just love your style.

You wanna sing the blues? Do you like the blues or is just the thought that your voice sounds better...I am confused about that part...lol.

Aren't there jazzy/bluesy songs that would suit you better than Muddy Waters?
Have you ever listened to any Nick Drake music? He's kind of inbetween Donovan and jazz...very hippy style blues maybe?
He's got stuff on YouTube if you care to hear him. Try 'Fly' 'Pink Moon' 'Cello Song' and see what you think.

You worry too much. :(

Don't change the hair....lol. You look great in that picture:)

LOL at the "big hair" comment!! And, by the way, you look great. Definitely get some video to post here; we'd all love to see/hear it.

Have you ever heard of Eva Cassidy? She was a bluesy singer from around the WDC area who never made it big until after she died of bone cancer. If I remember correctly, she's the #1 female artist in England, and has become more popular in the USA since her death. She's a great finger picker and does a nice version of EMR.

You look fine, and worrying is not good for your constitution.

lol you gals are too funny. Never heard of Nick Drake. ah Eva Cassidy, I've heard of but not much so I'll make it a point to pay attention. I'm really into the bluesy/jazz, Amer. Pop classics and LOVE Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn and Ella. I can't scat for chit though...but have fun trying. I can play, "The Man I Love" on the guitar and sing it...well so-so.

Eva sang a lot of the old blues classics. She did some folk too, but even that had a blues undercurrent.

sounds like you ended up with the same Ibanez I traded in, lol

the pic looks good, could use a bit more exposure (the pic & yourself)

I should clarify, by exposure, I mean getting out to more of these local open mics ...if you're prone to worry, then worry about your next gig, not your last...if you want to get over any jitters early on and/or win the crowd over early then try start by giving them a singalong chorus tune like Teach Your Children or Roy's Dream Baby or whatever then once the ice is broken, break into some of your more intense listening tunes (maybe the bluesy, I Can't Make You Love Me?) ...anyhow, keep rockin, bluesin, or folkin:)

oh geez...thanks for the Ibanez  ...and the advice :). I'm not really interested in more exposure though. Perhaps 20+ years ago or so, I'd have more ambition and take this more seriously. I like the idea of a singalong and I even like playing/singing Dream Baby (Cindy Walker - Roy didn't write this one). A great one to do of course...I'd love to play the Coconut Song :). I don't feel quite so nervous any longer - probably as a result of having to be on a beta blocker for almost a month now...that helped ALOT!

I'm more concerned about technique, etc., and just not being good enough to please an audience. I don't want them to have to suffer through my performance!
