He sounds really good here, better than when I saw him last September in K-Zoo I might add.

This is a great "souvenir" for Mandoann and me because we so enjoyed Tarrytown. We got there about 2 hours early on the train. About a block from the theater, I thought my meds weren't working and I was hallucinating because I saw a white haired gentleman with shades and said "Ann, does that guy have a ponytail?" She laughed but then she said, "Yes!" It was Rick so we were thrilled to be able to talk to him and he was kind enough to offer us backstage passes. During intermission, a gentleman came up to us and asked if I were Sheryl and not only gave us the passes but asked us what we wanted to drink. That's class!
Gord's voice was weaker than at Town Hall for the first two songs but then he got into the groove. People kept shouting they loved him and he kept saying, "We like the work!, or "You're wonderful!" It was almost like a Massey Hall feeling. The Band was looking forward to returning to Toronto that night so as always, they were so pleasant to everyone (Ann and I had a WONDERFUL talk with Barry in particular but I feel like dirt because I didn't get to thank Rick for passes and the libations!) Ann got her Christmas present early because Gord although admitting he was tired and sitting behind a table for awhile, talked to her at length about music and was amused when she asked him to sign her "GordPod". Once again I met about five young people this time who have become recent fans, which is great, and Ann saw old friends from Massey. And the Band probably got back to Toronto before we got back to Grand Central! Cheers from Ann and Sheryl! |
Re: Video- Gordon Lightfoot, Tarrytown, 2009
I have just remembered that at both NY Town Hall and at Tarrytown Gord did not use his usual "Nature" introduction to "Restless" but instead paid tribute to Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger who had an encounter you may recall recently with some Canadian Geese http://www.rlrouse.com/pic-of-the-da...dian-geese.jpg A skein (flying group) of Canada Geese Flying South For The Winter as displayed on:- http://www.rlrouse.com/canada-geese.html at one time I used to often walk around the lake at nearby Warinanco Park http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3079/...49c57b.jpg?v=0 which required careful stepping as the geese used the pathways as restrooms. there are as number of skeins visible to the left of the tree in blossom, completely occupying the footpath Gord, prescient as ever of course wrote "The wild goose will be on her way" and "I can feel the restless yearning of those geese as off they roam" I would have thought that the Hudson ditching makes an interesting story that Gord could weave into a song?? |

Interesting that he puts old Sully into his song, but Sully is a LEGEND all his own, also... guess it's true that legends can identify with one another on a different level. Sully is amazing... go AF! Great pictures John.
