Question: if and when there is a Gordon Lightfoot film, what would you put forth as a tagline/subtitle?

I suppose it's almost like coming up with something to put on a headstone

I have many ideas but will refrain for now...however, the first was simple:

the "What a tale his thoughts could tell' and "If You Could Read His Mind"...bylines have been used a lot over the years so would like to see something new...altho both are perfect.

cool...and your'e right (duh!), i guess many, many have found themselves as part of the headline/subject line for personal interest article headlines...such as The Legend Lives On (that one in the Spec right before his Hamilton comeback gig:))

as for the tombstone, i guess two always come to mind:

A Painter Passing Through (his most autobiographical song, iho)

or:

Heaven Don't Deserve Me (irony, wit, plus it speaks to his past...all so Lightfootian)

or my fave:

How about Ordinary Man? Gord is so humble, so that would fit. Then after you watch the movie, you realize how "unordinary" he actually is.

i found that rm had started a similar thread some time ago and that was my reply, Ordinary Man (i don't know why it attributes my post to the awol stationmaster...are we sure he and jessie are not one and the same? they both seem to disappear without notice and then reappear like they haven't missed a beat)

I believe the 'attributing posts to the wrong screen name' arose when Florian made the format changes to the forum some years ago.

You're absolutely right that in the geographical and philosophical sense, he never did. My line of thinking on this (late last night) was metaphoric, i.e. that it was A Long Way Back Home to peace and clarity.

But after reading your post, I do see how some folks could be scratching their heads over this one.

Well "he's not sayin"to his fans anyway...maybe to his old friends and such but the fans will wait patiently I'm sure.. We've waited this long.

And Dave Bidini is working on his book so that will be a nice read I'm sure. Not a book written by Lightfoot himself but we'll take what we can.

Yes, "I'm Not Sayin'" is probably perfect.

"East of Midnight" always just seemed like a fanciful, magical kind of title to me - was that the album title or was that a song on Salute?

Your first thought is correct , Morgaine (love that name. Arthur fan too?). It's an album title and a great song. I agree that it's a magical title. A former beau and GL fan once said to me that if you imagine the clock as a compass and midnight is north...East of Midnight is 3 am (or pm too if you don't do military time). I thought that was kinda cool.

Personally I like Ordinary Man...but I'll be happy with any title as long as Gord is willing to write the story and someone make the movie.

The Mists of Avalon is my favorite book. But I guess GL fans tend to be on the romantic side :)

Would prefer Steven Spielberg to produce/director as opposed to Oliver Stone or James Cameron!
