Jimmy Buffet's new guitar and tune
Lyrics: A Sunday off in gay Paris
I was bound for the sacred street Gods have dropped upon Montmartre But not Rue de la Guitare Mais pas Rue de la Guitare Like melodies that never fade These girls who found their masquerades ' is still a strange bizarre down on Rue de la Guitare On Rue de la Guitare Windows filled with long lost dreams Unfinished songs on rusty strings From Nazareth across the sea She'd somehow caught up with me Parfait a compris I read the wood and felt the skies I spoke with knights in smoky bars How many songs, how many beers Had cost her journey here A toast to those who love to hear A D18 played Lightfoot clear Music still lives in shops and bars Along Rue de la Guitare Rue de la Guitare Now over here people sing Comment ca va monsieur Buffett? On veux voir une chanson a joue'e Vie Rue de la Guitare VIDEO - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPPbLbWIYMs \ |
Rue de la Guitare (Jimmy Buffett)
Been listening to Jimmy Buffett's cd "Songs From St. Somewhere" Decided to workout Rue de la Guitare. The song is about a Martin D18 JB found in Paris a couple of years ago. Part of a verse runs: "A toast to those who love to hear a D18 played Lightfoot clear" I know Mr Buffett admires GL, nice to hear an appreciation of him in a song. Well don Jim!

Re: Jimmy Buffet's new guitar and tune
Good, find char. Saw Jimmy buffet in concert for the first time on Easter weekend in Florida. Great show. He has a tradition where he does an encore without the band, just him and his guitar. Reminded me of when Gord would do that sitting on the piano bench at the beginning of the second half. Buffet released a whole album of those acoustic encores called....Encores which I highly recommend.

Will be seeing him again this September, once again in Paris. The amazing thing is there will fans there from the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. They just follow him around.

Jimmy Buffett( James William Buffett ) Lightfoot (Narration) Listening to that track now, there are two words that immediately come to mind Gordon Lightfoot As Mark Twain said, all ideas are second hand either conciously or unconciously Oscar Wilde put it this way, Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness Whatever you call it, there's no other way to learn your craft than by imitating others Ask Bob Dylan about Woody Guthrie or Beyonce about Tina Turner That is just the way the process works You admire somebody then you try to emulate them but only for a time The trick is to find your own style, sound or voice And that comes from your natural talent, your work ethic and still good luck So if you think you hear a little, let me correct that, a lot of Gordan Lightfoot in these songs, congratulations You're correct, he was the greatness my mediocrity tried to emulate It wasn't until four years ago that I really got to thinking I was lucky enough to be in Toronto when Gordon played Massey Hall the place I always heard you had to see Lightfoot Where we spent a delightful visit backstage after the show When I got around to awkwardly thanking him for his inspiration His response was what you might think it would be He said; you seem to be doing pretty well Jimmy, just pass that on That's a classy act So if you're lucky and work hard enough, you will eventually find a style of your own Then if you're really lucky and work really hard your own style will become something others follow Gordon was my guide though the musical woods It's one of the unique and pretty cool parts about being successful Inspiring others, which is exactly what Gordon did for me Now I'm certainly not blind to the fact that there are singers and songwriters out there who pattern their work after mine I'm perfectly fine with that So here's a lightfoot song that was a big hit in the Animal's Corner in those Mobile days Thank You Gordon and I will pass it on.
