Day trip to Antarctica
http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/conne...seeing+flights
There are 5 Antarctica sightseeing flights going from Australia in the next Southern Hemisphere summer, including one from Melbourne on 15Feb2015. My dad was keen to go on one around 15 years ago, but at 85 he seems to have given away the idea. I've booked a place at the Melbourne information session, but I can't see myself forking out $1100 for a 12-hour joy ride. (And if something went wrong south of Tasmania, there's nowhere for a jet to land.) By the way, the Antarctica Fact File in the link above is fascinating. |

Re: Day trip to Antarctica
An item on my 'list of things to do' is to visit Shackleton's grave on South Georgia. Maybe I could kill two birds with one stone? Ah the possibilities...

Re: Day trip to Antarctica
Joveski,
Yes, Melbourne and other parts of the state of Victoria have been like Antarctica this week. It even snowed at Lorne on the surf coast! http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/me...801-zz8ag.html http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/vic...-1227008140006 (The temperatures mentioned are in degrees Celsius. To convert to Fahrenheit, multiply by 1.8 and then subtract 32.) |
Re: Day trip to Antarctica
or the other way, from 'C to 'F, multiply by 0.55, and add 32. ok, i've always been a weather buff!. get ready for a near freezing night dave tonight if you're still in box hill.

Re: Day trip to Antarctica
Joveski, we were both half-right. To convert from C to F, we have to multiply by 1.8 and then add 32. On Sunday morning, Melbourne's temperature dropped to 1.9C (35.4F) and some outer suburbs dropped to -3.3C (26.1F).

Re: Day trip to Antarctica
the city temp was 1.4, but coldstream had -3.7 and avalon had -3.2. it was -1 in preston at 4am. i bet the canadian people thing we're whinging over nothing :)
btw, the conversion from one to the other is either (5/9) or (9/5), then addin or subracting 32, depending on what conversion you want. gee, i'm glad thisnt a quiz show! |
