Snow In San Diego.

You read right.

That headline reminded me of Van Morrison's atmospheric song "Snow in San Anselmo", which described snow falling in another part of California for the first time in over 30 years.

As I write, Melbourne's temperature is 39degC (102degF). Tomorrow's forecast is 41degC (106degF). The worry is the accompanying strong wind, which can push bushfires. Already there are major fires west of Melbourne.

It should be said that San Diego County is a large county, it includes terrain all the way from sunny sandy beaches to chaparrel-covered hills to tall mountains to blazing hot deserts. I lived in Chula Vista for 20 years, that's where I learned of Gordon Lightfoot in High School, and listened to his music while exploring San Diego County. Julian is at an elevation of 4200 feet, high in the Cuyamaca mountains, so snow isn't that unusual there. It may not happen every winter, but it does happen.
