Glasgow 2016
Just flown back from Glasgow, having seen Gordon last night (18th) Have to say IMHO he was brilliant, we expect nothing else. Gordon stepped on to the stage of the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall a little after 2000, to an enthusiastic welcome, the audience were whistling ,cheering and applauding, Gordon just stood at the front of the stage taking it all in, I think he was moved by the welcome he got. He turned, picked up the D18 and launched into Sweet Guinevere, sadly I never took note book nor pen to the concert so cannot give an accurate setlist. I sat at the airport this morning and wrote down as many of the tunes he did that I could remember.
They were: Sweet Guinevere Clouds of Loneliness Ribbon of Darkness Waiting For You The Watchman's Gone Carefree Highway The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald Never Too Close Spanish Moss Restless 14 Karat Gold I'd Rather Press On Let It Ride Don Quixote A Painter Passing Through Sundown IYCRMM (which got a tremendous response) Now And Then Baby Step Back Shadows Early Morning Rain The above are not in the correct order. He started the second half with The Pony Man He encored with Rainy Day People and Cold on the Shoulder. He also did 2 tunes I cannot recall, Segwaying from one to the other. He did not do Canadian Railroad trilogy. As I said at the top it was outstanding and I and the audience enjoyed it, he got a standing ovation at the end. Gordon and the band must have been overjoyed, especially as it is 35 years since his last visit. It is a big venue, was not full but it was a good three quarters full. A great night. I am now looking forward to Birmingham on the 27th. I will note the setlist there. |

I'm switching up my gear a bit for this tour and will be playing my Breedlove Performance Focus through an AER compact 60 acoustic guitar amp. So far I love the on stage tone. The electric is a 1966 Gibson ES-335 TD. Ribbon of Darkness was interesting, as when Gordon got to the final lyric "Ribbon of Darkness" he stopped and the band finished it with a low "Ohhhh verrr Meeeee" There was no segue into Sundown.
The list is from memory, I cannot recall the 2 songs he segued Yes, not in chronological order. I have just remembered he also did Beautiful. |

I use the following for songs 1-10 (image stored on Facebook) https://scontent.fewr1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...3b&oe=57D2C247 I always use those 10 words ( albeit I use "bun" for one and I find that vine for nine is better than "line", often thinking that a glass of wine is Beautiful: it surprising how often that song is the ninth!!) for the first set (after 10 I improvise) for example 11 is the number of players in a cricket team etc I then start at 1 again for the second set and repeatedly run through both listings in my head as the concert continues whilst trying not to confuse the images from the two sets!! for suggested images up to 20 see:- http://www.proprofs.com/flashcards/s...etree-mnemonic I would have wagered that the segue pair were the usual Ribbon of Darkness (with "over you" deliberately omitted then Sundown.otherwise it might have been DSMMM or Spanish Moss plus A.N.Other?? I have carefully perused the comments on the Glasgow show on Facebook in the threads on the GL Fan Club member page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/GordonLightfootFanClub/ and noted these two very relevant comments:- 1 Lyn Milne There were a few, High and Dry was one, but he also had a cold . He could have done anything, the audience behind him 150% !!! and after Char posted a link on that Facebook timeline to rhe setlist such as it was Phil Hines (of Newcaster UK) added this comment "Minstrel of the Dawn which I thought he did superbly" If he really did add High and Dry I think it would be the first addition to the list of songs "on rotation" for ages . I had thought that he might have added Daylight Katy since it was a minor hit in the UK climbing to #41 |

RICK:On May 16, we left Toronto on a flight to Great Britain. 2 days later we performed in Glasgow, Scotland here at the Royal Theater. The last time we played in Glasgow was May 16, 1981, 35 years ago at the Appolo Theater. A fabulous, enthusistic crowd greeted us and erased any thoughts of the cool Scottish rain outside.

Today we drove roughly 4 hours North through the rain from Liverpool to Newcastle UK. We're performing tonight at the Town Hall a quaint performance hall in the center of the city. Looks like my chromatic tuner has decided to quit on me. Time to visit a music store in England!
