'On the Road Again' goes off the air
A Gemini-award-winning CBC show has been quietly pulled off the air after a 20-year run. "On the Road Again," hosted by Wayne Rostad, will be broadcast for the last time tonight.
The show has sent Rostad across Canada in search of interesting Canadians - including a man who built his own submarine in the Prairies and Inuit children playing golf in Nunavut. There was no formal announcement on the cancellation, but the show plans to put together its own farewell package.
Rostad, 59, tells the Globe and Mail that the reason given for the show's cancellation was lack of budget, but some are speculating that it's part of CBC's effort to draw in younger viewers. At one time the show drew nearly one million viewers, but has recently been getting 300,000.
