John's golden rule number 13 for successfully displaying pictures here:-
Paste the address you intend to place between the UBB tags the [img] and the [/img]
into your browser's address bar to verify that it is a valid picture address (URL)
and the correct picture. then you've got a fighting chance of displaying the picture
Golden Rule Number One is of course that the picture
MUST be on a pukka website somewhere.. anywhere and not on your hard drive or buried inside an email
Hence the recommendation to use
http://www.imageshack.us to store your own pictures.
