A very militant feminst I know objected to the song due to the line, which she viewed as sexist, "Woman draw her life from man and gives it back again."
Although I initially agreed, I pointed out that it could be viewed as a reference to marital love, sex and childbirth. However, in that case, the better lyric would be "new life" instead of "her life," so I sing it, when I do, with my change.
If Elvis can change "can" to "might" in EMR, and if Gord thinks Elvis was right in making the change (Gord does), I say that the song is meant to be used, sung, and adapted as necessary.
