SAINT JOHN — A little black monkey named April who was stolen from New Brunswick's Cherry Brook Zoo is safely back home with her family.

Police in Saint John say they found the little critter in a cage on a city street corner after receiving a phone tip Thursday night.

Police are going over the call to see if the voice provides any clues to the theft.

April was stolen early Tuesday morning when someone jumped a fence, kicked in a door, and took her from the enclosure she shared with her mother, father and brother.

April is a rare callimico monkey, also known as a Goeldi's monkey.

The primates, originally from the Amazon region, are known for their close, family ties.

They are tiny creatures and it's estimated nine-month old April weighs only about half a kilogram.
