Default Re: Northern Lights / Tears Are Not Enough !

Some of this video is absolutely dreadful. The song has a wonderful sentiment, but some of those 80s only type performances are enough to send me to the throne of vomit for a purge.

Gordon, Burton and Joni are certainly the tops in the crowd, but the whole thing wreaks of David Foster and his MTV ilk. I am glad that Foster respects Lightfoot, but his respect was a bit misdirected in the 80s. He always wanted to update the Lightfoot sound and change what needed to be left alone. "Anything For Love" was their only effort together, and for that, we can all be thankful. If Gordon had allowed Foster to shape his career in the MTV age, we would have only seen pathetic results, with Gordon looking like an old timer wanting to be again. Gordon's music is timeless. It should be left that way.

Anyways, I don't believe this song raised nearly the money that "We Are the World" did. But, it was a great thought.

Man, the 80s just wasn't a good time for any singer/songwriters. It was all about bands, shredding guitars, synth and big hair. Gordon, Burton and Joni look out of place for sure.
