Re: Hi folks!
Welcome Nikki ! Glad to have more friendly folk to echange witty
reparte...naw...! - more like down-to-earth Rainy Day People, you'll be glad you came here, its a nice family of friends.
My musical interests are pretty similar to yours. If I had to take one
decade of music stranded on a desert isle, it would definately be the
70's. Lightfoot accounts easily for over 3/4 of my listening time at
home; I like some old Rock when I'm driving in addition to The Man. I
like Old Gold American Standards, primarily by contemporary artists,
with Big Band as the theme for their indivual dive into oldies - like
Rod Stewart, Linda Ronstadt, Natalie Cole, Harry Connick, Nancy La
Mott, etc.
What is Blue Rodeo like ? I keep hearing more and more in corfid here
about them. What would you compare them to , if you had to come close ?
Do you like facebook ? Like everything, I have heard both cautionary
statements about facebook; but I have also heard the same, especially
lately about MySpace, which I am a member of, very inactive, except for
a few friends and family on it spread around the country. I like the
analogy applied to facebook and MySpace, and the like, that is used
often to describe the internet in a broader-stroke; as a dynamic,
extremely diverse, driver and buyer and surfer beware, but not so much
you don't have fun. Moreover, the analogy goes on to its main part -
that of the internet being compared to a large city.
There are beatiful parks, gardens, museums, aquariums, theatres showing
good and bad movies, and countless things healthy and fascinating. And,
it is also said on the flipside to be a world of 'evils' when
downloading the wrong file, opening the wrong file, hyperlinking to the
wrong site, copying, purchasing, etc. And for every good exit off the
internet highway, there is a bad exit, the one you regret taking 1/4
mile off because the signs were poorly thought out - and you get caught
under an overpass, at night, in a dark, dingy industrial part of town-
and you've got a flat tire.
No point changing it if you driving a nice car or SUV (if its my
truck, no worries - lol), or are poor at defending yourself or under-
equipped to do so; just raise all the windows, lock all the doors, and
call for help on your cellphone, cause even if you survived changing
the tire, by the time you got back in the bad guys would have stolen
your tires, wheels, hubcaps, halogen lights, and you'd be up on blocks,
and not even know it til you were done wiping the grease off your hands
I don't think its categorically dangerous anymore than I think it is
categorically safe. You and every one else knows this, except for those
who are not familiar with the internet and have just heard horror
stories about it.
The only reason I mention these truisms is that the same
argument seems to be going on now about MySpace, and FaceBook,
and a bevy of niche interest mega-blogs. Six months ago I heard
'facebook is BAD news - stay out of IT, man'. Then 6 months later, I
hear 'MySpace is the one that is really going down hill' .
Phooey. Common sense, healthy skeptical optimism seems a safe steady
course. I know were it not for MySpace, I would not be a cyber 'friend'
of one of Lightfoot's previous 15 year veteran band members - PeeWee
Charles, he has a fascinating site with a song he composed the
arrangement for, as a Eulogy and inspirational song regarding
9/11. Very friendly guy, and quite open to talking with us Lightheads.
With near 2,000 of us in corfid alone, I don't see how he does it !
Well, welcome again; and I would like to hear your thoughts on
facebook. Good to have you !
