LOL
The other day I was waiting at a GO station (train that runs along the lake from towns east of Toronto and all the way west thru the city to Hamilton).

I was in the shelter with a young girl, possibly around my daughters age of 21. We were expecting the train in about 4 to 5 minutes so passed the time as all Canadians do, talking about the crappy weather for this time of year. (Had it been great weather we would have talked about it too)

After what seemed like a VERY long 5 minutes and was actually more than 10 I started to say that if the train were delayed they should make announcements to folks waiting but was interrupted by just such an announcement. "Due to equipment problems the train would be delayed for another 10 minutes."

The young lady then gave me such a surprise!
She said "it's amazing that there is even a railroad that goes across the country from Pacific to Atlantic. When you think of the men, mostly Chinese, who did all the labour by hand with barely any machinery like they do today it seems impossible - and that it was done in only 4 years is crazy!"

Well she never mentioned CRT or Lightfoot but knowing what is taught here in the Ontario school curriculum I knew that she had learned about the making of our railway in her history book by reading that one page with a pic of Lightfoot and the lyrics to CRT on it.

I just smiled and said, "yes it's amazing and it's also good to know that young Canadians like her learned and remembered the history of this country and what it took to build it."

Then we bitched about the lousy weather some more.
