Default Re: Lightfoot Celebration at Hugh's Room - night one-Jan.22-10

The Good Lovelies – a trio of young ladies with incredible harmonies, new to the shows said that for tonight they would change their name to the GORD Lovelies. http://www.goodlovelies.com Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore form the four year old group. They sang Alberta Bound and Song For A Winter’s Night. Their harmonies were effortless and so sweet. They mentioned performing at a Springsteen tribute concert and being nervous about it..and then finding out that one table of people sitting in front of them had collectively seen 700 Springsteen concerts.

Old Man Luedecke (Chris Luedecke) http://www.oldmanluedecke.ca is actually a young guy with a banjo. He said his mother had two Lightfoot albums while he was growing up and he would perform the first songs on both. He sang Wherefor and Why and played the banjo – it was awesome! He said when he was 16 he was grounded for 3 months for having a house party when Tom Cochrane’s “Life Is A Highway” came out and that’s when he listened to the Lightfoot albums. He had to buy a record player to play his mum’s album so he could learn it. He also sang Steel Rail Blues. It was quite a treat to hear Lightfoot tunes with a banjo but not with a dominant bluegrass sound.

Liam Titcomb http://www.liamtitcomb.com was at the shows last year and has spent the last year busking across Canada and raised $50,000.00 for War Child Canada. He’s a tall 22 year old, born into another musical family and makes the Lightfoot tunes he chose his own. He sang Carefree Highway and Cotton Jenney with some great energy and guitar work from Jason and David.

Group FINALE – all assembled onstage to sing Rich Man’s Spiritual and take their bows.

Friday night was over but we had decided to attend the Saturday night show – with some gentle nudging from Jory that is..what a sweetie.
Lisa and I made our way home to the Marriott hotel after snapping a few pics. The weather was mild for this time of year so the few blocks to the subway were not like last year when it was so cold.

Another incredible evening celebrating The Man was over…but there was one more to look forward to..what would Saturday night bring???? Stay tuned…
