Wow that was a fascinating article apparently there were in existence at one time no less than three "last spikes", but only two both made of iron were ever actually hammerred into place (the third a "ceremonial" version made of silver is the one that has now after 127 years been placed in the Canadian History Museum in Gatineau Quebec opposite Ottawa).
