Nicholas: The victory of SOS: SAVE OUR SAM the Record Man Sign was a true community effort, involving thousands of people who lobbied, signed petitions, tweeted, emailed or called their councillor and spoke in favour of preserving this cultural artifact. Along with support from politicians like Josh Matlow and Andrew Cash and organizations such as Music Canada, the campaign also received a critical boost from musicians including Gordon Lightfoot, the first of many artists who came forward with a personal letter. We caused quite a stir. When those giant neon discs light up and start spinning again next summer, we can all feel good about the effort we put in to saving an important piece of our history.
