CONCERT REVIEW

Gordon Lightfoot performed at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa Friday night. It was a real treat to see the legendary Canadian music icon.

Please have a look at our review and images here:

GORDON LIGHTFOOT IN CONCERT

Well, I got to spend the evening with a Canadian legend. I’ve always wanted to see Gordon Lightfoot in concert and for whatever the reasons or circumstances, it never happened. Until Friday night. Sure, you might say that isn’t rock. And you’re sort of right. He is considered a folk-rock legend, and well, I just felt that I could make a bit of an exception for an artist like Gordon. And lets face it, everyone knows how much I just love live music, so here it is.

Mr. Lightfoot casually strolled onto the stage, Gibson guitar under his arm and a smile on his face, to a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday and cheers. (It was Gordon’s birthday the next day). With a clean and simple set up, he and his 4 piece band ran through 50+ years of stellar music that has stood the test of time and most certainly will continue to do so. His wit and good nature shone through as he made little jokes and carried on a dialogue with his audience throughout the performance, and the man remembers everything about his music. Yes, the voice is a little softer, perhaps a touch weaker but it mattered not. This is Gordon Lightfoot. His guitar playing is on point, his style and charisma as evident as ever. And his crowd adored him, cheering and swaying in their seats to his music.

Gord commands that attention. He’s earned it. This was a night of pure Canadiana and I can check a box for myself personally. Sundown, Carefree Highway, The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitgerald, If You Could Read My Mind and on and on. Lightfoot attracted a bigger crowd than some of the rock concerts I’ve covered recently. That tells you something right there. Given the reaction of the near capacity Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa, there were a few boxes checked for people.

Happy 80th Birthday Mr. Lightfoot, and thank you for the memories and the music. Legend.
