Ken, Gord suffered an aneurysm in his abdomen. He was in a medically induced coma for about 6 weeks, with an open incision from his sternum to his pelvis for awhile, to be able to get at and control internal bleeding.
I believe he did have a trach, at least in the beginning of the ordeal.
