Old movie featuring "If You Could Read My Mind" in the closing credit

Slapshot was fact based. The movie is based on the North American Hockey League (NAHL) in the late 70's. It was filmed in NAHL rinks and used NAHL players as stand-ins and fillers. Binghamton's Rod Bloomfield did some of the skating scenes for Paul Newman. Oglethorpe was in reality Billy Goldthorpe of the Syracuse Blazers (look in the dictionary for "goon" and you'd find his picture). One of the consultants for the movie was Ned Dowd's
sister. Ned played for the Johnstown Jets who were the basis for the Chiefs team. The Hanson's really existed also - they
were the brothers Jack, Jeff and Steve Carlson. (this is the same Steve Carlson who played for the Kings. Also, Jack and Jeff played in the WHL). The scene were they went into the crowd actually happened at the Utica Memorial Aud. against the
Comets. This event turned an otherwise mediocre team into an inspired team as the Jets roared to a league championship.
And yes the Carlsons wore thick black glasses and had long hair just like that. Two of the Carlsons played "themselves" in the movie and the third brother was played by Dave Hanson who had some success with the Adirondack Red Wings of the AHL in the 80's.

Me, again. Some of the scenes were shot in Syracuse at the old War Memorial arena. I remember there being mega news coverage. I haven't seen the movie in ages so can't vouch for the soundtrack.

I liked Slapshot, I was a fan of Michael Ontkean at that time (and an always fan of Paul Newman). Don't remember the music, I do remember the butt shot though.
