All of my sisters and I (five of us) have absolutely loved Gordon Lightfoot's music and always will. My oldest sister is now is Stage IV breast cancer and I have taped all of his album's for her that I have. I was wondering if there was any way to have his press club send her his 4 CD set that has the song "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" on it as this is the only song I don't have. All of us would certainly appreciate it as we don't expect her to live past this winter and she loves listening to his music.

I have been a fan of Gordon since the late 60's. His talent reaches deep into the soul of the listener. I am a musician myself and have performed his music for years. What is so facinating is when people young and old who never heard of him take notice to the songs. They always ask, "Who wrote that beautiful song?" I started out in folk music and have gone full circle and now folk is where I found contentment and shall always keep his music alive so others can feel the power of his words. Thank you Gordon for it all.

Since the early 70's Gordon Lightfoot has been an inspiration through his wonderful words and musical talent. When SUNDOWN was released I was a 13 year old kid almost on the side of being completely lost through family problems. When I heard Gordon for the first time, his music and lyrics enriched my soul with a true to life meaning of what real music is. Since then I have played a six string and a twelve string guitar to 85% of his songs. I thank you for being a huge part in my life.

Gordon Lightfoot`s music has enriched my musical experience beyond mere words; Songs such as "Pussy Willows, Cattails" and "Cabaret" (among dozens of others) can paint portraits of such soul-stirring beauty that is difficult to explain. To quote the lyrics from a very fine tribute song to Gord from The Guess Who called simply "Lightfoot", "He is an artist painting Sistine masterpieces of pine and fir and backwoods". (If you have not heard this particular tune, I suggest you c**** it out!) After the Edmund Fitzgerald sank, I picked up "Summertime Dream", and then after began to purchase,one by one,Gord`s releases. They are indeed treasures among my music collection. I saw Gord for the first time in Cincinatti when "Shadows" was his latest offering, in Lansing, MI just after "Salute" (fabulous!) and in Kalamazoo, MI after "East Of Midnight", where I was fortunate enough to get an autograph from Gord and the band after the show. I don`t quite know how to thank Gord for all of the enjoyment I have derived from his music.

It's good to see so many other fans of Gordon-but I kind of always felt that he was writing songs just for me. From the intense "Affair on 8th Ave" to the historical tunes to the gettin' old tunes (Cold on the Shoulder) Gordon has written my life! And now I'm pleased to be able to introduce my boys to the great seafaring songs like Yarmouth Castle. I've loved Gordon Lightfoot music since the late 60's and had the pleasure of seeing him several times in concert, and am thrilled to learn that he's still touring! I'm 39, and for some reason have waited this long to become a big fan, although I've always thought Gordo was an extremely talented singer/songwriter. Maybe because I can relate much better to Gordon's music, after all the ups and downs I've been through. Mr. Lightfoot is a true poet.
I do however enjoy my own lyrics to the old Edmund Fitzgerald song. If you like Hillary Clinton, you would hate.. "The Wreck of the Hillary Clinton". Maybe he hates her too, and will record it!

Hello, I am a 15 year old Canadian in Ottawa. I am a keen guitarist,
writer and singer. I am in the process of producing an 18 song original CD. I
play lead, rhythm and whatever in between guitar, bass, electric drums and
lead vocal, harmony and whatever effects come to mind. I am also the producer
and would like to have a hand if I receive any feedback in this aspect of
music.
My "Studio" is in the basement. I have an 8 track digital recorder, lots
of toys to make it sound pretty good. My parents say the place is a mess and
I promise to clean it all up once I am finished this project. Creativity has
a price!!
My influences include Hendrix, Zeppelin, Clapton, Doors, Jeff Buckley,
Daniel Lanois, The Tea Party, a whole slew 60's /70;s guitarists, singers
writers and producers, Stevie Ray Vaughn, my blues mentor, Tony D, and all
musicians who came before me (far too many to list) "I have seen so far
because i stand on the shoulders of Giants ". On the shoulders of these
giants, I like what I see. I don't believe in false modesty and I have to
say I have surfaced above mediocraty.....but, I need someone oher than people
on the streets to listen to my material, and appreciate it. I'm not just
taking Ideas from all of these artists and putting them together, but rather
using them as a map to find my own.
I play in Ottawa's market area in summer and make up to $50 an
hour...but now I am ready for a manager and someone to listen and offer
advice. My music is a combination of all and any inspiration I can find,
including blues, rock, flamenco, jazz, psychadelic, but also has an
trancscendentalist, esoteric aspect. I believe that music transcends all
aspects and boundaries of human nature. Through my mixture of influences, i
seem to have creaed an interesting, exotic, and distinctive style. I don't
sound like a 15 year old boy, my voice is much huskier and deeper (but not
forced), and people are always surprised to find out how old I am after
hearing me play. I have an exceptional abitlity for lead guitar, weather it
be razor sharp, impressively fast rock riffing, or a slow, delicate tickle of
a blues solo.
Remember, a number of influencial musicians, including the biggest band
in history, The Beatles, were turned down by less than imaginative people
who could not see beyond what they knew. I try to judge myself objectively,
and critisize my music as though it were someone else's. I ask myself "Would
I like this if I heard it on the radio??" When the answer is yes, I decide to
keep the song. This way, I know that nothing but the best of my music is
being presented to the world.
For me, performance is almost a spiritual experience, and so much energy
flows through me that it not only affects me, but those who witness it. I'm
totally comfortable in front of anyone, as long as I have my guitar in my
arms, and a microphone to channel my energy through. Sometimes, it's as
though i'm not even playing any more, I just fall into a trance and the music
plays itself, while i'm left to enjoy the raw emotion.
So, if you would like to take a leap of faith I will be glad to send you
a copy of my material. It really is quite good. Very beyond the boy band
stuff and back to blues based rock. Interstingly a lot of my school mates are
now getting turned on and tuned into some of the great music that inspires
me.

I'm not a young but a 63 year old stranger, who allowed you and your music to share many years of her life. Being Dutch/Canadian Canadian/Dutch and having lived a major part of that life away from Canada, you always seemed to dull the pain of missing that fabulous country. Hello
My (not-for-profit) company (This Country Canada) has been working on a project for the past four years, documenting the last days of a way of life on the Canadian Prairie. Gordon's music has long inspired me as an individual as well as a researcher/documentarian. This prairie record we have formed takes-on a number of 'end-products': a nationally travelling multi-media exhibit (Calgary's Glenbow Museum is touring it for at least 5 years), a 10 part (nationally broadcast) radio documentary series, a book and a web-site with a special section devoted to facilitate teachers and school children. There is a 7 minute video which is part of the exhibit: I would like to have permission for usage (and fulfill appropriate copyright law and any fee schedule for the usag) of one of Gordon's songs for this video. How can I go about getting this permission? Thank you Gordon for your painterly music and your inspiration throughout my life.

About twenty five years ago, when I was about half way through elementary school, my music teacher literally disected, analysed, and taught the class all about the ballad:The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I was extremely facsinated, but that faded until about fifteen years later, when I purchased a C.D. just to have Ed Fitz. in my collection. I started listening to the other songs ,while house cleaning and not really paying attention. The next thing I knew, I was hooked! About the same time (age 25) I reintroduced myself to playing guitar and started song writing. A few years ago (age 32),I wrote a song about a fictional drowning in Lake Erie, and I kinda' had this fantasy about getting G.L. to record it, then reality set in. Coincidentally, myself and my X girlfiend came very close to drowning in an undertow only a couple of miles from the setting of that song, just after I finished writing it..... I met G.L. briefly outside of Massy Hall one time. I stammered some- thing goofy and that was that. Gord: if you ever see this, please keep playing pictures.Your awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! sincerely, K.S.

Hi, I'm a 30 yo Canadian who up-sticks some years ago to live in the UK. I have listened to Gordon's music since I was quite young, as many of his songs got repeated radio air play, long after they had been released. I've collected some of his albums and like all of his songs. Being from Ontario myself, I know many of the areas that Gordon sings about, and it reminds me of the places I still miss, and the maginitude of the Canadian landscape. It is very difficult to find copies of Gordon's music over here, or other Canadian music! I have been listening to Gordon since my college days in the early 80's. I went to college in upper NY state and went to Toronto pretty often, buying his albums that were not available in the USA. My favorite Lightfoot song is "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" because some of my ancestors traveled accross the US by railroad in the 1800's. Not long ago I relized that we are now in the 5th.generation of listeners of Gordon Lightfoots music! I recently saw Gordon in Eugene Oregon and was very privileged to speak with him after the show. I think Gordon is WAAAY underrated! He is one of the finest musicians ever-period. I got hooked as a pre-teen back when If You Could Read My Mind got a lot of air play. I love his string arrangements. There are some songs that I can not listen to without shedding tears, not because they remind me of anything specifically, but because they just evoke such emotion through how they were written and arranged! Your Love's Return and Too Late for Pray'in come to mind here. I must say that if I ever got the chance to meet him in person and shake his hand I would act like a school girl...and that is saying something because not too many folks in this world can rattle me really. I hope a whole new generation starts to appreciate him. I confess I sneak his cds in as background music while my students create (I teach art) and I get good responses.."who is that? That's pretty?" etc.. I could go on about him for a while. Funny when you meet someone else who likes his music...it's like instant kismet...especially if they know the more obscure and early songs.

I grew up in Michigan but it wasn't until I moved to Arkansas that i started reading about shipwrecks of the great lakes. I bought my first album after that. Living in the great state of Michigan. Just had a son return from Alaska - commercial fishing. It was not uncommon for them to learn of a fellow fishing vessel that never returned to port...thank God he is home safe. Love the great lakes - no place on earth like living in northern Michigan. Love the song of the Edmund Fitzgerald....a very sad story..the song still gives me chills as I look out over the great lakes and think of its lyrics.

My name is Colleen and I have been a fan of Gordon Lightfoot's for 22 years. Since I was in my mom'tummy! She actaully was the fan first and when I was just 3-4 years old we would dance around the room to the soothing sounds as I danced on her toes! Since then we have been to numerous concerts and always have waiting for an autograph until we are almost the last ones there.Before my mom visits heaven years from now I would be truley endevered to give her the gift of an autograph from Gordon to my mother. When I was 6 I would lay on my parents couch and listen to Gordon Lightfoot with headphones.With his songs burned into my mind I have never grown tired of his music.My two children;Ashley 10 yrs. The first GL song I heard was "Sundown" in the early seventies. I was twelve or thirteen. I think it was the tamber of his voice that immediately hooked me. I still have my original LPs. Call me corny but "Wreck of the Edmund ftizgerald" is still my fave. I, like many people I think, thought it was about some 19th century wooden vessel, with great masts and billowing sails. I didn't find out the truth until I saw the discovery channel documentary about the Edmund Fitzegrald a couple of years ago.

I have been a fan of Gordon Lightfoot's since...well, as long as I can remember. My parents used to listen to him among others. When I was a child I vividly remember hearing "Sundown" and "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald". And after so many years of listening and turning others on to his music I got to see him in concert. He came to Davenport, Iowa this year during the flood.(2001) I took my father to the concert. It is one of the few memories I have with my father that I will cherish for the rest of my life and his. I love Gordon Lightfoot. I'm 26 and didn't realize he was touring a few years ago and saw a poster for his concert going on that night in the city I was in. I was bummed. I'm planning on hitting one, possibly both the concerts coming to the NH, ME area in March, 2002. I have been listening in Gord's music since forever. I saw him in concert at Vanderbilt U. in the early 70's. It was a great show. I was once proclaimed to be the most knowledgeable person when it came to Gord. Alas, I don't know as much as I once did, except for one thing. Gordon Lightfoot is the best folk songwriter in the world bar none. If I am ever in a funk, I can pick up my guitar and play Early Morning Rain, and I will be o.k.

The Edmund fitzgerald went down about 7:00 CST (8:00 EST)November 10, 1975. That was the time my father died. He was a maritime officer [Kings Point, '44], sailing during WWII and for some years after. Shortly after the Edmund Fitzgerald went down, Kings Point [the United States Merchant Marine Academy]established a monument on which the names of deceased graduates would be carved.
In an article on the monument in "Polaris", the alumni magazine of the Academy, the writer used the lyrics "and all that remains is the faces and the names of the wives and the sons and the daughters". The song will always have many meanings for me.
My father, who sailed the oceans, but not the Lakes, always said the Lakes were far more treacherous. My condolences to the families.

I bought my first Lightfoot album about 35 years ago,it was Sunday concert, and I was hooked. I play and sing Gord's music every chance I get. I recall visiting my wife's relatives in Toronto once (in 1960 something) in hopes of seeing Gordon preform. I was standing on the street admiring a vintage automobile( a white Cord ) when a man came across the street, smiled a big smile, hopped in the Cord and drove away. Later that night, while I was visiting with my wife's uncle, Gord appeared with Kris Kristofferson at the Gaslight, I'm not sure of the bars name in downtown Toronto, but I missed it. I still can't believe it. I still gotta wonder if that was Gord in the Cord,(I had to say it.) I love your music Gord, I'll keep pickin'and singin' it as long as my fingers keep working. Just like a fine wine or an old fiddle, your songs just keep getting better with age.

I keep finding myself coming back to Gord's music. All else changes, his brilliance remains. It seems to me that there were more wonderful melodies in Candadian Railroad Trilogy than most songwriters can pack into an entire album (or even career). I have been looking for Karen Hochstein. Like Gord, I was born in Orillia. I had the privilege of meeting and talking to Gord when he sang with Terry Whelan (his then, singing partner) at Big Chief Lodge. Gord and Terry provided the entertainment for the JayCees weekend convention. (My father was President at that time). Gord let me play his guitar and sang a duet with me. This guys songs hooked me when I was maybe 15 years old. I head first 'loving me' by Peter Paul and Mary and I just "knew" that song. Later I heard the man who wrote and "knew" the songs too. They touched me uniquely. like I'd written them myself I guess.
I played guitar wrote a lot of songs myself, but not like Gord's songs, still he was a yardstick and a mentoir in many ways. I am English and do not write or play like a Canadian!
Later, I got the albums. they were rare in England. Then I went to two concerts at the Royal Albert hall. Magic. I loved that sound.
What can I say, this man someway knew me and knew my life.

I have been a Lightfoot fan since "Richman's Spiritual" on the early "Lightfoot LP." I used to go see Gordon At Tanglewood, Mass. and at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs in the Seventies. When he stopped coming in the summer I thought he had retired. After the "Dream Street Rose" LP And "Gord's Gold" I could never find any material. Then I got a computer and "wow." Thank you Valerie Magee. I finally got to see him again when our paths crossed at the Florida Theatre in Jacksonville, FL which I believe was an added show. My wife and I were going to go down to Clearwater, FL. to Ruth Eckard Hall but magically he added that Jacksonville show just for me. It had been over 20 years since I had seen him. What a thrill it was when he sang "The Pony Man" which was requested from a screaming man behind me. I used to sing this song to my (at the time, small) children at night when they went to bed. I just melted. I also used to play lead guitar and banjo in a folk trio for many years in New York and we did a number of Gord's tunes. Hey Gord if Terry ever needs a break I know all his licks (as well as Red's). Please feel quite free to touch base. Rick's the best bass player ever. Just a note: Becky can find that song "The Auctioneer" (I think) on the "Dream Street Rose" LP. And: Did'nt Gordon play the song "Sundown" one time on the show "The Midnight Special" years ago? Mr. Lightfoot is not only partially responsible for bringing my hubby and I together (I was initially attracted to Hubby because he sang like Gordon Lightfoot), but also for keeping us together.

Well, what can I say about one of the greatest folk singers of all time. I have been influenced by Gordon since I was 10 years old, when my mother bought a guitar for my birthday. That was 24 years ago and now, I still listen to and play his music.
Gordon has influenced my life in ways that I can not explain in words. He has inspired me through music, words and thought. I have seen him in concert, obtained his autograph, seen him in Toronto and even talked to him on the telephone, ~briefly that is!~ I can say he is my childhood hero.
Other than that, Gordon has saved me several times with music, wisdom, words and thought. There is not a day that goes by that I do not hum, sing or think about good ole Gordy. My favorite song? Well, I can't say. I am now teaching in Thailand, and have been here for 2 years. I can say that Gordon is with me here, in my heart and mind. His words carry me. All his songs are my favorite, everyone.

I have been listening to the music of Gordon Lightfoot since the very early 70's when I was in high school. One of my sisters had one of Gordon's earliest albums and one of the cuts in that album was "Sit Down Young Stranger" It was this piece, along with "Cobwebs and Dust", "The Pony Man" and a few others which convinced me that Gordon Lightfoot's music was really worth listening to. Today, I have almost every single album that he has ever produced. When I was in high school most of the kids in my class were listening to garbage, and I really think that today's generation still is. There are very few musicians, song writers, composers, who can hold a candle to the artistic tallent of Gordon Lightfoot. America's greatest neighbors are the Canadian people and in June of 1979 I went to Calgary, Alberta for a convention of the National Model Railroad Association. Canada is many things to me, it is the Canadian Pacific Railway, and the Canadian National, it is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, it is the bag pipers I saw playing on the streets of downtown Calgary, it is the Canadian Rocky Mountains and so many other things, but it is also the music of Gordon Lightfoot. I was motivated in part to make this trip by Gordon's music. While I was in Calgary I found the warmth and the hospitality of the Canadian people to be incredible. Someday I will make another trip to Canada and see more of the country that Lightfoot talks about in so much of his music. His best material is not the stuff that were hits that made the charts, but stuff that most people have never heard because the radio stations in the U.S.A. never play it. I live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and to the best of my knowledge, Gordon has never played here. Last fall I narrowly missed out on being able to go see him perform when he appeared in both Minneapolis and Lincoln, Nebraska. We now have the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls with a large auditorium with excellent acoustics and it is my hope that someone will eventually contact Lightfoot's booking agent and get him to come to Sioux Falls. Gordon's birthday is on the 17th of November and he will be 63. I am going to try to get myself a Canadian flag and fly it outside my home in his honor on his birthday.

Escuché por primera vez a Gordon hace 20 años, una tarde de invierno descubri Fantasmas del Cabo de Hornos e inmediatamente me impactó su voz, la enorme sensibilidad que se desprendia de cada frase y de cada acorde y se convirtió en mi cantante melodico preferido. Compré el album "Dream Street Rose" y descubrí que mis primeras impresiones y emociones no estaban erradas. Con los años seguí comprando otros albumes como "Don Quixote" y "Al este de medianoche", pero lamentablemente en Argentina no está difundida esta musica y es muy dificil conseguir material.
las cancines de Gordon fueron importantes en distintos momentos de mi vida y por ejemplo, fueron las canciones de cuna de mi hija, que hoy, a sus 13 años es una fiel admiradora del idolo de su papá y en su colegio está ensayando justamente Fantasmas del Cabo de Hornos en un taller de música.
Agradezco la posibilidad de poder expresar mi enorme afecto por este gran musico y solo lamento no poder conocerlo personalmente pero me gustaria que supiera cuanto lo queremos, mi familia y Yo.

I have been a fan since 1966, when I first heard GL when I was stationed in Alaska. His music gives hope of a better world, and memories of a kinder generation. My father was a big fan too. He died of Lou Gehrig disease (ALS) in 1981. His favorite song was Bobby McGee, mine is Black Day in July, not because it's pretty, but because like much of Gordon's music, he tells it like it was. I've been a fan since the early 70's. Just recently I attended a G. Lightfoot concert in Hagerstown, MD. It was the first one I had been to in a number of years, and I really enjoyed myself. I took my daughter, who is 19 and studying music at college. She's heard his music played at home since she can remember, and really enjoyed herself. Gordon's Music is like an old friend. I don't know what I would have done without it. It's seen me through both the happy times in my life, and the more challenging ones. Thank You Mr. Lightfoot! GL's wonderful songs have given me so much pleasure throughout the years. If first became familiar with his lovely ballads back in 1973. To this very day I enjoy his music almost daily as I take my long, meandering strolls, headphones in place, singing along with his tapes.
His music has been such as source of pleasure for me...through the happy times in my life, I've related to his songs of love, sailing and nature...through my more difficult moments I've been comforted by his gentle words and melodies.
I've had the pleasure of seeing him in concert several times over the years, including this past Monday night in Princeton, NJ. He was, as always, simply wonderful to listen to. I am so happy to have discovered this website, and share my thoughts with other loyal and grateful fans.

We have just returned from a 3 week vacation in the "Good ole' USofA. We flew into Chicago and drove up to Milwaukee to see Gordon at the "Potawatomi Bingo Casino" He was there 25th 26th April. We got tickets for both nights. Whilst having a drink at the bar we noticed a familiar figure watching TV, it was Rick Haynes. We approached him and asked if he could get Gord to sign our sheet music of "The Wreck ...." Rick went one better he managed to get us backstage after the show to meet Gord, thanks to Rick and Barry Harvey for that. Most important of all thanks to Gordon for two tremendous shows. We have been fans for very long time, and living in the UK we felt we just may never get to see him "live" Let alone meet him, a dream come true. Having seen Gordon perform "Heaven Don't Deserve Me" I am going to add that song to my pub repertoire. Thank you Gordon Lightfoot a great man who writes and sings great songs.

Gordon has been singing to my heart and soul for almost 30 years. I haven't been able to see him in concert for a few years, but the times I did see him--2x in Denver, St. Pete FL, and Kansas City were spectacular. I was lucky enough to have a 25 year old dream come true....to see Gordon Lightfoot in concert. There was some doubt as to whether there would be a concert due to the flooding in Davenport, but there he was on stage singing "Triangle" for the opening number. I was listening to Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and my nine year old son said, dad I didn't know you liked Gordon Lightfoot.I had no idea he had an interest in this wonderful music. It turns out his music teacher at school taught his class about Gordon Lightfoot and his songs.
It just happened he was in concert in Hudson,N.C. the next night,about five miles from our home so I took my son and he loved it.When I meet this music teacher I'm going to thank him.My son really wanted to meet Gordon Lightfoot, but he fell asleep just as the concert ended so he didn't have the chance.Maybe next time.

I have just been reading about all you lucky peoples experiences of seeing g L in concert< I can only imagine........The concert would have to be on a freezing night, and he would open with Song for a Winters Night, followed byCanadian Railroar Trilogy,then a little chat,you know loves the city etc etc.He would then sing Seven Island Suite and I would be bawling, I melt every time I play that song, then whilst I was still crying he would proceed to sing The first Time Ever I Saw Your Face,Hubby would be telling me how happy he was for me that I had finally realized my dream of getting to see him in concert.Then it would be Sit Down Young Stranger, Approaching lavender. Sundown, If you could Read My Mind (I would be crying again) Same Old Loverman..........well this is just the best daydream ever because I get to hear every beautiful song that I wish for. I've been enjoying Lightfoot's music since I was 13 years old, I'm 51 now, and listening to The Fitzgerald as we speak.Saw him in concert once, in Moncton, N.B. and was quite impressed.

Hello Gordon, I'm not sure if you would remember the last name, but incase you do I am writing you to see if you do.. My mother has told me that her and her sisters and brother when younger were blessed to have known you.She says that at one time your mother was either thier cook or house keeper for Betty LaRocque.. She has told me that sometimes you would bring a case of beer over to her house and watch all of them and play some songs for them..She has great memories of this and other tales of it. Have listened to Gordon Lightfoot for a long time and cant get enough! I have all the albums from 60 to 80, and now will look for the new ones i have discovered at this site. I have seen only one GL concert, in the 80's here in Charleston SC.
Its good to have him back. I have also have hooked my 15 yr daughter into listening to GL. as well.
We will be at the concert tomorrow in Charleston (24 March 2001).Cant Wait!
When all is said and done, Gordon Lightfoot will be the one most remembered in History for a musician who can tell stories, ballads and sing about everday life with feeling, that will catch your attention and will have you craving for more.

I've followed Lightfoot's music since '67. Love Shea, Clemmets, Haynes, et.al. I've played guitar in various styles over the years & always end up back at this type of music. Seen the guys live probably 8 times, most recently here in Denver, Aug. 2000.

We are longtime fans who will be sitting in the front row for your concert April 28th in Davenport Iowa. We are also sailors who are now back home in Iowa after cruising the South Pacific for three years. We also sailed the length of the Mississippi River back in the late 1970's.(We once admired your boat on the pages of Wooden Boat magazine several years ago) We live in a cabin on the banks of the Mississippi River, and have our cruising boat(a Vancouver 27 built in Lahaina Hawaii, and outfitted with a Chinese junk rig and free-standing mast) in a marina nearby. Although its not practical for sailing on the river, we can at least pretend. we - Peter (Austria, 54) and Helga (German, 58) lived in Canada from 68 to 72, in Newfoundland, Labrador and NWT. That is when got to know and love your songs. They have been our good companions thru all the years until now. Even our 27 yr. old daughter loves your songs. We met you ounce - a long time ago! Do you remember? In 1969 or 1970 we lived in Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit) and you come up for a concert.

I dont know if you will remember me, but a few years back, maybe 6, you held a concert in Chattanooga, Tennessee in a real small theatre in the middle of town. I was the person who came all the way from California to meet you, I shook your hand, took one look at you and was smiling from ear to ear. It was great meeting you and boy did I have an interesting evening after that! I ran into your business mgr and we all went to the Radisson Read house and I had way too much to drink and ended up being carried upstairs to one of your band members rooms cause I was way too drunk! hahaha!!! I'm not even sure how I made it home that night! Haha!! Tell your Mgr. Barry, that I said Hi! He gave me his Business Card, but I lost it! once upon a time, back in'76 - '77, I wrote some lyrics for Dewey Martin and Bruce Palmer of Buffalo Springfield fame, and along with a guitar player named Scotty, they were recorded at Studio One in Toronto. I began listening to Godon because of my older brother. The first song I can remember was Sundown. In about 1983 Iwas spending a weekend at my brothers. He said that I could put on his headphones and listen to his casset collection(The very best modern conveinence we had) I began going thru his Gordon collection. I quickly found The wreck of the Edmunnd Fitz. Which became my new favorite song, at the ripe old age of 12. That song also inspired me to investigate the story behind the song. Which also led me to investigate other shipwrecks. During high school my interest in Gordons music got me teased by my best friend constantly. After I subjected him to Gordon he said that he did like some of the songs.
My older brother and I have evrthing that Gordon EVER did. I recently got on Napster and downloaded a number of never released songs. I wonder how maney I still may be missing. I have seen Gordon at 2 concerts. Both were great! He is a very good showman.

I am originally from upstate NY, and began my devotion to the music of Gordon Lightfoot upon my return from Viet Nam and leaving the military. I saw Gordon perform first at Cortland State university in Cortland N.Y. in 1971. I have all the works of course, old albums, caasettes, and now CD's. I have been to 16 concerts, at least three at Avery-Fisher Hall in NYC, I will be seeing Gordon on March 23 in Greensboro NC for my 16th. concert. The music and lyrics have stood by me through good times and bad, and who cannot see thenselves reflected in the masterful lyrics.

I fell in love with Gordon 20 years ago when i was 11. In 6th grade, i had this guy who was probably in his 50's, but anceint to us. He had us sing the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. This must of been in 1980 or so so i had heard it on the radio. I think i still have the lyrics somewhere at home. The teacher died over Christmas break that year, but I thank him for this life long love he gave me of good music. And i thank God for Gordon still being alive. unlike most other singers i really like.

Mr. Gordon Lightfoot,
Sir, I enjoy all of your music but I most enjoy that which is of or about the sea, ship's and boats. As a U.S. Coast Guardsmen I have always gone to sea on our services cutters with several of your albums packed in my seabag. I have spent many an evening on the fantails of these cutters watching a beautiful sunset with your music caressing my ears and soul. When I was assigned to a Coast Guard Station on Cape Cod, Massachusettes your music seemed to myteriously melt into into this beautiful seascaped land. Some of my fvorites are, "Christian Island",
"Ghosts of Cape Horn", "All the Lovely Ladies", and of course "The Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald". Your songs have inspired me to perform my duties as a Coast Guardsmen to the best of my ability; protecting man from the sea and the sea from man. Partially thanks to you, I have risen through all the Coast Guard enlisted ranks and am now an officer. I have commanded five Coast Guard units and am presently assigned to a 210 foot medium endurance cutter homeported in St. Petersburg, FL. We patrol the entire Caribbean enforcing all federal laws, protecting the environment and saving those seaman who occasionally get into trouble.
I am anxiously looking forward to seeing you for the first time, in person, in Clearwater FL at Ruth Eckerd Hall on 17 March. Thanks for the many years of fantastic music.

The Summer Side of Life is the first album I ever remember hearing, played on the record player my dad made out of old parts on speakers he wound himself back in the early seventies.
Ever since then the music has stuck with me, and reminds me of a not neccessarily carefree youth, but certainly a time that holds fond memories.

It's been a long time for me since I first got into Gord....
I was a twenty something college student in 1973
If you could read my mind introduced me to Gord.
I saw him six times in concert...once I had front and center
seats at Tanglewood in Lennox Mass. (7/1/76 - I'll never forget
the date.) Six to eight feet from him for 2 hours.
Cold on the Shoulder had just been released. Anyway, I got
away from him, how I'll never know. But then I bought a CD
of Gord's Gold II, and I heard Triangle...and I once again remembered
why he was so special. I once heard him referred to as the
'The Bob Dylan of Canada'...Dylan should be so good.

The first recollection I have of Gordon Lightfoot music was hearing it blasting out of speakers my grand dad had set up on his veranda. He drove the neighbours and my grand ma crazy. In 1972 I bought my first 12 string guitar. In 1976 on my birthday my wife Lorraine bought my the album Sundown. Gord has been a dominate musical influence in my life since that time. Lightfoot songs are those rare items of music that can be understood at many levels. The lyrics hit a chord very deeply within me; In the first place, they speak of the Canadian experience. The imagery and allusions conveyed in the lyrics are frequently references to Canadian geography and environment that, while understood by all, can be best appreciated by those who have lived among that about which he sings. Themes of travellers and rovers recurr, which I think resonates in the hearts of all explorers and adventurers. In a very interesting and unique way, he describes the masculine experience brilliantly. Finally, his traditional, bold but conservative musical style is quintessential folk music -- music for the people, to which the people can relate and even sing along. Lightfoot embodies in his music a strong sense of what it is to be Canadian, and I have often recommended his songs to new Canadians (and old ones!) as a means of understanding this country better.

I have been a G.L. fan since I was a toddler and my parents would sit with their friends around our dining table talking and listening to music. I think "Sundown" was my very first favorite song. I went through the 80's liking whichever current band caught my attention but always continued to be a G.L. fan in private (when you're 15 or 16 it's hard to admit to your peers that you like music that isn't "cool"). Once in college, I came back out of hiding because of a very diversified group of friends who had respect for differing music tastes, including several who were G.L. fans themselves. I saw G.L. in concert several years ago at The Woodlands in Texas and was filled with joy at finally seeing and hearing in person one of my all-time favorite performers! Now I am 30 and have a 17 month old daughter who is well on her way to becoming a full-fledged fan herself (of course, she didn't have much choice as I played G.L. to her in the womb and quite often since her birth!) There is just something about his songs that touches me. He is a very visual songwriter/singer and it is almost as though I become a part of the music when I listen to him. No other artist has affected me in that way.

I have been listening to Gordon Lightfoot for many years...ever since I mistakenly tuned my radio to a local country station (in Buffalo,NY.)in the the early 80's.
Mr. Lightfoot has knack for hitting all the emotional 'cords' most males do not express but wish they could. He is very lucky.
I enjoy his music very much but my favorites have to be Alberta Bound, A Song for a Winter's Night(nice job Sarah but not as good as the original) The Pony Man,Ghosts of Cape Horn, Christian,Island and Canadian Road Trilogy

Can anyone help, please? A couple of years ago while we were touring in Canada I heard a tune on the radio which contained the lyrics "four strong winds". At the end of the track we had driven into an area of poor reception and I couldn't make out the artist's name, but recently I heard the same track here in Scotland. Guess what? There has been a strong desire to see him live from the time I was really able to appreciate the mezmerizing quality of his talent. I know he's a native of Canada, can anyone tell me when a live performance would be and if he still tours here? Bless you Gordon and bless all the fans that have the intelligence to appreciate his brilliance.

The first song I heard was "If You Could Read My Mind" (the Gord's Gold version with the harmonies), and I was entranced. I'm so surprised more of his great music ("The Watchman's Gone," "Now and Then," "The Way I Feel," and many others don't reach a wider range of people than they do.
He's one of the greatest!

Summertime Dream URGENT request a copy of this CD to borrow, Gordon Lightfoot music has been a part of our family life since the 60's we want to play the track 'The House You Live In' at my sons funeral on 15th January. I have liked Gordon Lightfoot's music all my life, allthough I am only 13. I started liking his music because my parents were both fans. My favorite song is "Minstrel of the Dawn". I have his autograph on a painting of a ship (Edmund Fitzgerald) that I bought.

Hi....I've been a Lightfoot fan for about 31 years and I have seen him countless times in concert both at the "Opera House" and at Massey Hall. I even saw him open for "Simon and Garfunkel" at the Skydome a few years ago. That was a pretty amazing night given that "John Candy" was the MC. This was about a year before he expired. I live not far from Orillia, Ontario and I could always easily relate with Gord's lyrics. Keep on truckin' Gord, Life wouldn't be the same without ya.

I got an E-mail the other day in regard to the "Two Tones" that were remastered and put on CD along with a short clip of DARK AS A DUNGEON. Would you please send this again as I have misplaced this after I down loaded it.
Also, I am looking for someone and thought this may be the place to locate an old friend. Jack Keat was stationed in Panama in 1971-72 and we played a coffee house there together a lot and did a lot of Lightfoot After my transfer back to Texas, we lost contact. I have been a fan since the early 70's and at that time would attend each and every concert in the NY/NJ area. Saw you at Lincoln Center, Garden State Arts Center and a small venue in March 2000 (John Harms Theatre in Englewood, NJ). I have loved your music for an awfully long time and nothing would make me happier than having an autographed photo. Listening to "Last Time I saw Her Face" still gives me goosebumps.
