I think it's one thing if someone is uneasy around animals or has just never been around them, but something entirely different when someone dislikes them. One time someone came over to my house and made a comment about my dog who was sleeping on the floor. I told him my dog lives here, not you. If you don't like it, leave. Seriously, I think one of the main reasons people dislike animals is because they are afraid of them. I can see being afraid of a large dog but disliking them is nuts. I think those people have some issues they need to deal with.

I love animals, but I just can't handle having any right now. They are a serious responsibility as well as a joy, and it wouldn't be fair to the animal at this point. I have a cactus and a kid that I'm trying to finish raising, that's all the responsibility I can handle at this point. I miss having a dog though...

lol. my kid is nineteen. Last pet I had was a ferret, and the ex got him in the split.
I didn't "toss" any animal. I just know better than to take on the responsiblity of one at this time. I live in a small apartment.
I had my last dog for nine years, 6 years ago, and I'm still not really ready to replace him.
Like I said, living things are a responsibility, why take that on if you can't do it justice? Not good for the animal.

Yeah, I agree. I waited a long time to get to the place where I could have the dog and know I could give one a good life. The cats were easy, I could always find an apartment that would accept two cats and some goldfish, but try finding a place that allows 75lb dogs. I couldn't begin to take on the whole child thing. Dogs are easy, children are as tough as it gets.

kids get harder as they get older. sigh. I love him, but wow! stress, stress, stress. I go visit my girlfriend and her three cats for my pet fix. Not allowed to have pets here anyway. some people still do, one apartment does have a dog, and I don't think the poor thing gets out much except for potty breaks...bummer for the dog, it needs to run and play and do doggy things...

Wow! I have been reading posts where people "toss" their longtime pets away, and it makes me sick! My cats are work, but not that much, and all they give me is LOVE!!!
I do not understand how anyone could get rid of a pet! It's as inhumane as the PETA ads!!!

Yeah, I'll never understand that one either. I got the dog from a rescue. She's beautiful. With the exception of the tail, she's pretty close to AKC standard. But some fool didn't think before they bought her and wound up dumping her after two or three years because they said their backyard was too small. What they really meant was they didn't have the time. They never taught her what sit or down meant. She didn't know how to play ball when I got her. I could go on. It stuns me everytime I go to the rescue's site. I've seen beautiful German line, German bred dogs someone paid a fortune to import sitting in the rescue at 18 months. They had a 10 year old dog there once someone turned into a kill shelter because they said he was too old to play ball anymore and they wanted to adopt a puppy to replace him. I don't understand things like that. How can anyone live with an animal for any length of time and not love them? I don't understand people sometimes.
